They’d probably be a pretty good thing to hide BEHIND tho’ wouldn’t they? Your enemy has to enter it or walk the long way around to shoot/assault you.
…and so do you… The point is about being inside it, not behind it. 🙂
The point they asked is, would you use it and how would you use it. Magpie made a good point for just sitting behind one. And if you had and objective marker placed with you, that’s a big chunk of obstacle, which most players would ignore toward the end of the game for more easier objectives. Plus if your a melty flamy army, then you can use the Fortress of redemption for the first couple turns, let is armour get reduced from enemy shooting. Then fallback, out of line of site, and its a sitting death trap for enemies to… Read more »
I probably wouldn’t use one that was already on the board. Will probably have one stuck to a gaming board tile so that it can be bought as part of the army list though.
When I read the rules I picked up on the gun emplacement not working but somehow I missed the two fewer armour points part though.
Thanks guys good tip.
I think I have a cunning plan.
@spaced2020 thing is tho’ the guys are advocating letting your opponent have any that are already onboard so really you’re just giving them a redoubt that is a real pain to reduce if they hide behind it.
Unless there’s an objective behind it too, or its got barrage weapons, any unit hiding behind the building is effectively out of the game while it does that though.
Obviously there has to be a sound tactical reason to be hiding behind it.
One thing to notice on pg 96, it states under the ‘Fortifications and Dilapidation’ that its ’emplaced weapons’ may not be fired.
Emplaced weapons (p96) and Gun Emplacements (p105) are different!
Thus while the Emplaced Weapons (the auto-fire Heavy Bolters on a Bastion or all of the weapons on the Fortress for example) may not be used in this case the Icarus Lascannon and Quad-Gun on the Bastion may be used as they are Gun Emplacements.
True that. Which makes gun emplacements somewhat an objective if your enemy has flyers and you got no sky fire.
Plus the rules can be bent for more narrative game play. Say emplaced guns can be repaired my mechaniacs, tech marines, blessing of the omni etc. no harm sprucing up the game as long as you and your opponent both agree on the same rules.
Ooooh, I like that! Consider your idea of repairing the guns taken to be used in our store! Thanks
Might not be fair for nids, but they could always hide some ymgurl genestealers in that piece of terrain. I don’t know if tau, necrons, and the elders have a repairing infantry unit of some type.
Maybe regular infantry can attempt to use it on a 6+ or you must have a whole squad or a certain amount of models embarked to make them usable or automated.
pretty sure the tau don’t, but with allies I guess you could have some Gue’vesa allies with a techpriest enginseer, be bloody pricey but would fit the bill, load of crappy auxiliaries soaking up fire while the proper tau go about there business… be easy enough to invent a whole host of rules just to spice a scenario like this up (first post btw!)
Maybe I play too “fluffy”, but I still like parking my snipers in buildings, dilapidated or not, for the line of sight advantages.
For me and my friends this rule gets house-ruled depending on the scenario of the board we are playing on.
Example:
the board already has 2 bastions fixed to it with defense lines, The theme/story of the board takes precedent over the rules. Space marines are stationed at the Outpost while chaos marines are attacking or visa versa. We just make it so the guns don’t work but Armour values stay the same.
Starting a game with a bastion and a troop of 5 havocs (who were never going to move anyway) and something parked in front of the doors makes a bunch of sense. For around 150 points on top of your troop you have lascannons and such blasting away for at least 2/3 turns wiping out any approaching termies or vehicles. If you accept from the off that those guys are on a suicide mission and you’re playing marines of any ilk then surely it makes sense to bring one to the table. Climbing into a vacant one however is a… Read more »
