Darrell is on a roll and claims to have found even more cheese!
This time he's got a plan to break through an infantry screen protecting some Leman Russ tanks.

techinally darrle you cant move through within 1″ of another emeny model so the gap would have to be at least 3″ big for you to do this so this techinally wrong
yes you could charge through it but if you touch another base you count as hitting them and since it is touching it would count so that 1″ difference would even make sence in charging
you can when your making the assault move
actually because hes multi-assaulting he is allowed to move within one inch of them
You can’t move within 1″ of another enemy unless you’re assaulting them. The guard squad would have to be the first squad the space marine squad assaults.
you can choose which you do but you are write with your statement and since it not big enoight gap to move through woith out touching any base he cant do this anyway
Actually, Darrell is right here 🙂 the exact wording is ‘All of the models in an asaulting unit make their assault move following the same rules as in the Movement phase, with the exception that they may be moved within 1″ of enemy models’. It does not say that you can only go within 1″ of the unit your actually charging. Cheesy 🙂 but he is right
Yep, its all down to minutiae, the only thing that possibly goes against it in the assault rules is that the closest model in the attacking unit must be placed in base contact with the “closest model in the enemy unit against which the assault was declared” technically your opponent could argue you’re declaring an assault on the guardsmen as well, since you have to assault through them so you have to move the closest model into contact with them, that’s fine just put a model that’s not in line with the gap closer in the movement phase, move him… Read more »
I start to think Darrell is actually out of a Wallace and Gromit movie …and he is actually MADE out of cheese ^^
and actually jump infantry CANT jump over you in the attack step because the run into combat as normal infantry would
Are they golden?!
You are so wrong you can’t do that don’t listen to this. Sorry Darrel I would never let you do that.
I’d like to see a supporting argument against it. As far as I’ve read and understand the rules, it would be a legal assault. Not saying you are wrong either.
I think forming a thin, spread-out line of guardsmen to block tanks or board edges is cheesy enough to warrant this cheese-juggling trick
Wait what? When did basic tactics become cheese?
?????????
The only thing remotly cheesey about this is the guy doing the “operation human shield / get behind the darkies” manouver. Walking past it isnt cheese if anything it’s sorta anti cheese… no idea wtf would be the opposite of cheese tho =P
From watching closely, Darrel lifts the model over the two guardsmen when moving it through the gap to hide the fact that the gap is narrower that the base of the marine. You can’t assault through gaps narrower than your bases so this would have failed in the example on the video. However the idea behind it is legal when looking at the rules as written on page 34 of the little rulebook.
If this is using the ways the rules are written there are a couple of things that need to be remembered. First the gap has to be wider than a base for as people have said if it touches then they have to assult the infantry. Secondly they are assaulting through cover. As the guardsmen act as cover during shooting, so the attack is with initiative ‘1’
Wrong, assaulting through cover only counts when you have to move through difficult/dangerous terrain, or the enemy has some sort of special rule stating it.
nope. The rule “assaulting through cover” has several paragraphs. The first deals with difficult and dangerous terrain and how far you can assault. The second paragraph has the words “The second disadvantage is that warriors who are assaulting through cover are subject….”. So I believe it still stands that they are assaulting through cover and hence have init of 1
The unit doesnt count as cover in the assault phase though… Your taking one rule from the shooting phase and assuming it applies in another phase which completely different rules being applied. Nowhere does it say that the unit counts as area terrain for the purposes of charging through it.
@jamesf Read the entire thing, “If an assaulting unit had to take a difficult or dangerous terrain test during their assault move, all of its models have their Initiative value lowered to 1 when attacking” Since you don’t take terrain tests because of the guardsmen, you don’t count as assaulting through cover and so aren’t penalised. You seem to be confusing this with the rules for cover saves in shooting, which are completely different things.
yes my mistake 🙁 only if the dangerous/difficult terrain test was done. But I still vouch that they are cover, even if it means nothing 🙂
Lol he contradicts his own moves now, watch his Webwayportal vid to find out what i mean.
So in the end once again Darrel failed while trying to act like he knows everything.
