Army List: Tyranids Spearhead | Warhammer 40k
June 3, 2010 by johnlyons
Once again Warren talks Tyranid with his spearhead list.
There has been some debate as to whether this list is legal, some have 'rightly' pointed out that most spearheads are made up from the same unit type.
However...

I’m afraid this list is illegal: On the first page of the Spearhead Formation, it says that unless stated otherwise, all units in a spearhead must be chosen from the same entry in the army list. Harpies and Carnifexes are different entries.
The only current spearheads that allow choices from multiple entries are the Outrider & Mechanised Assault Spearhead.
It says “Up to six units with the monstrous creature unit type. HQ units may not be selected.”
They don’t have to be from the same entry ;o)
Read the first page of the Spearhead Formations, under the header ‘Choosing Units’, second paragraph:
“Unless stated otherwise, all of the units in a spearhead
must be chosen from the same entry in the army list,
though they may take different options and upgrades.”
The Monstrous Spearhead, unlike the Outrider and Mechanised Assault Spearheads, does not state otherwise, just that you can take up to 6 units.
mmmmmmm, You may have a point, it is a bit Ambiguous, I’ll put a message through to the GW studio and see what they say :o)
