Warhammer 40K 6th Ed. out June 30th? Psychic Power Changes?
June 19, 2012 by beerogre
That's right guys, we've heard from some very reputable sources that June 30th is the date that you can get your hands on the brand spanking new Warhammer 40K 6th Edition Rulebook.
We can't (of course) be 100% sure that what you are about to read is true, so take it with a pinch of salt... however... this source has always done us proud int he past.
The new hardback version is rumored to be a whopping £45, for a lavish 452 pages... what's that? 9p a page... a bargain! But not if you only want the rules, because I'm told you're getting a big chunk of the book devoted to miniatures, battlefields and all the images you've come to expect from a copy of White Dwarf.
I'm also assured that the rulebook promises to provide some of the background to the 40K universe... will this include a revision to the storyline?
Our sources won't say, but if you're really keen on 40K, you might be interested in the (individually numbered) premium collectors edition of the rulebook, that will come in it's own slip-case (for a whopping £80!), designed to look like a Gothic reliquary (or... box!), with some kind of hidden panel that slides out to reveal the book.
Still not convinced? Then what about a "Gamers Edition", complete with a leather(ette) handbag... I mean satchel... to hold your rulebook and the other widgets you get with the kit. I've been told there's a Munitorum Pin in the shape of a Imperial Eagle or a Chaos Star included, so that you can identify yourself as a confident gamer who can wear a handbag, decorated with a badge... BAM! TAKE THAT PRIVATEER PRESS!!!
The £75 (did I not mention that?) Gamers Kit probably comes with a set of red Munitorum Dice (or... dice!) and a Lazgun Pack shaped tin (or... a tin!) to put in your 40K handbag... lavish!
Could the GW line be the next highstreet fashion accessory?
Allegedly, this new Gamers Edition Kit is only available from the GW website, I couldn't imagine why they wouldn't want them in the stores...however, the big question is... how long until they are counterfeited in the Far East?
Of course there would have to be new printed Munitorum Templates (or... templates!) printed, probably in some sort of silvered plastic with whizzy lightning bolts on them... I would guess for about £12... or you could get a skull-shaped... sorry... servoskull shaped Munitorum Tape Measure (or... tape measure!), but I'm sure all you guys already have a novelty tape measure... don't cha?
You will also be able to buy some funky Munitorium Dice (again... dice!) with gothic designs on them, along with objective markers in the shape of servo skulls... but most interestingly, there will be Battlefield Objective dice (with a similar design to the other dice) that will help to indicate and generate primary and secondary mission... that's right! 6th Edition will have the potential for primary and secondary objectives to help drive the narrative!
There is also a whisper that there will be new Vehicle Damage Dice for AP1, AP2 and AP3 shots... what's that you say... new dice!
Does it look like you will have to buy new dice to play 40K?
Well... no, but these dice will help generate and indicate damage to vehicles.... although you never know... you still might need to get your wallet out!
But what about the biggest rumor... the changes to Psychic Powers?
Well it's been hinted at, that Psychic Powers are now going to be divided into 6 disciplines (Biomancy, Divination, Pyromancy, Telekinesis & Telepathy) and each Pskyer in the 40K universe will have access to a limited number of them, lending credence to the rumour that 40K psychic powers are going the way of Fantasy Battle magic.
Of course the changes to psychic powers should be detailed in the rulebook, but the smart money says you will probably be able to buy a deck of Psychic Power Cards (just like in Fantasy Battle!)... so you can all look forward to the demise of some of those powerful psychic based lists
(Darrell sheds a tear for his "Jaws of the Wolf Spam")
So what do you think guys?
Is this a direction you wanted the game to go in?
What will happen to your army list?
It now looks like it might be worth me taking a Weird Boy in my Ork army again!
Tell us what you think... we want to know!

The £80 limited edition is the best one to buy.
If the games a bit poo after all the changes, at least you can usually sell that one for profit on ebay.
I’m looking forward to seeing the overall picture before I start moaning, a few rule changes here and there are difficult to judge without playing a game or two of the full thing.
So what’s GW releasing on 23/6/12 ?
White Dwarf so you can see all this shiney new junk?
23rd is when the pre orders go up, and all the information comes out in white dwarf.
So, they are doing preview videos for pre orders.
By teaser I hope that won’t include a crappy video.
Oh Dear God please no!!
Nothing. They’ve put out teasers that on the 23rd you’ll be able to put in a pre-order in your local GW store.
Yes, they made teasers for pre-orders.
ye the guy who runs my local games workshop told me the same, available to pre-order on the 23rd, released on the 30th. all looks good though, the psychic powers thing reminds me a bit of the 40k RPG’s and if there changing it to a fantasy style thing all the better, I’ve always been more of a fantasy player than 40k. and as far as the dice is concerned you can always just nominate sides on a normal die
I’m a fan of the rumours I’ve read so far, especially the ones coming from white dwarf. Pretty stoked either way, ready for a change even though 5th is okay.
Come hell or high water, I have to have it. If just the basic package, never been much of a whore for the shiny gubbinz in my wargames. The changes mentioned don’t sound too bad so far. Though I still don’t even know how to play 5th ed. properly.
OK so now GW has placed a tempting tidbit just a month before my wedding. Lets see I’m on a tight budget to pay the wedding. Do I go for the new rule book or a wedding ring? No brainer go for the ring, the book will be out of date in 4 to 5 years 😉
You can give her the Imperial Eagle as a sing of your eternal love 😉
sign* -.-
But, “Give her the Imperial Eagle and sing of your eternal love” is so much more romantic.
True 🙂
You guys crack me up 😀
AWWWW! you big softie lol
Love it and good luck to you both!
I can’t wait to get my hands on my copy of 6th edition. I’ll play a couple of games before deciding if I like the new rules or not. It took some time before I got used to some of the 5th edition rules so, the same thing will surely happen with the new set. I just hope there will still be a lot of good times in the futur, playing 40k with some friends, a beer in one hand and a tape measure in the other!
😉
First of we should thanks Privateer Press and many other companies the fact they are putting pressure to GW, because if they aren’t there doing that there would be no big improvements in GW’s way of approach their clients. All this happens because they filled the need to put themselves to work and follow the example of other companies that were innovating in the market all this years. Aside from that, I’m now more interested in the game with all the rumors and many new elements. If they release the codex for android to and try to make something similar… Read more »
They can’t release the codex on any platform except Apple hardware – Apple corners the market and handcuffs you if you get into bed with them. Our LGW is 99% teens and twenty-somethings with nary an iPad in sight, but several Playbooks and Android tablets. GW forgot who their market is and got drawn into the Apple headlights.
6 psychic disciplines? You only name 5 – does that mean we could have Cheeseomancy?
Only time will tell… 😉
Me’h, they can keep their shiny new dice and psyker deck – I just got a full copy of Dark Millennium for a tenner off ebay – all hail 2nd Ed!
…although that said I bet all these extras are pretty, if pointless.
I still look forward to the video coverage guys, but I’ll wait for the new boxed set in September for a copy of the rules.
“What will happen to your army list?”
I play Tau so… ah not much, lol.
Looking forward to it either way
Warhammer Fantasy in spaacccceeeeeee!!
As far as rules go, the white dwarf leak doing he forum rounds today says Rage = +2 attacks on the charge.
All Hail my Death Company.
Where might one find these leaked WD rules?
dakka dakka and warseer have threads about it.
seriously, this sounds like a total redo like it was from 2nd edition to 3rd edition (all codexes made defunct), it also sounds like a huge step back to 2nd edition
I hope that I can finally use my Ork Warphead that I spent way too much time painting and has seen so little table time.
And the 6th Psychic ability Cheeseomancy is for Gray Knights.
it IS a satchel, Indian Jones had one, and he was Han Solo!
derp…*indiana…..
Indian Jones sounds good.
Curry in Cardiff.
There’s spicy Gunkhin bach!
Any news on an electronic version? Given the latest pricing for the SM codex … if the special edition is 80 pound then the electronic must be worth at least 100 (for the convenience of course) … or maybe they’ll be smart like the BluRay discs and include a digital copy for free … oh wait I must have a fever that’s GW we’re talking about
i for one am not looking foreward to 6th edition…it marks the beginning of an era…the era of ridiculous prices. i’ll wait and see, but if i’m right, and GW starts reeming us (more than they already do) i’m done with 40k period. do they not realise that the world’s economy sucks right now? are they not aware that we cannot shell out hundreds of dollars for their products? i know alot of you think that i’m a typical nay sayer and that i’ll buy the book when it comes out, but i’ve got little to lose…i’ve only got one… Read more »
At first I thought the 8th edition Warhammer hardback was worth the £50. It was massive and full colour, FULL full colour, unlike their “full colour” new Armies Books. It had a load of stuff in, loads of miniatures, loads of awesome fluff. Well worth the £50…. until despite only mildly reading it with the uppermost care, the stitching or whatever started to fret. And then I heard stories of how it fell apart for others, Which is why I might not be buying the rulebook. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I bought… Read more »
The greeblies/feelies/kibble that you can get alongside the rulebook is pretty cool, but ultimately pointless which is pretty much the norm for GW’s special edition stuff, so unless 200 of the 400 odd pages are brand new fluff I wont be able to find out about anywhere else, I’ll most likely wait till the inevitable smaller rules only rulebook that comes with the starter set makes its way to ebay.

In the latest edition of WD has chart listing the 5 Psychic powers, Biomancy, Divination, Pyromancy, Telekinesis, Telepathy and who can use which. Also you can just stay with the powers your Psykers already have. Not so bad!
Well Im getting the new rules. Im actually looking forward to them; hopefully a new injection of inspiration to the hobby. I hear alot of moaning about prices but a Battlewaggon cost the same as a night at the pub and no one whines about that 🙂
Ill probably go for the regular edition book.
I have played 40k since it’s first eddition, I suspect like like more that a few of the members on here. One of the few pieces of sage advise I can give, is to wait out the first release, something cheaper (be it a release package, starter box or sale campaign)allways comes along. Unfortunatly due to the fact I live in Australia I expect that the retail price on these items will be horrendous. Personally I am more than willing to wait for an Ebay bargain, dependant on reviews given on this site. I too play Tau, so again there… Read more »
I will just buy the starter set to get the rules is a better deal than all that cheap stuff
If they want to make super fancy extra long specially-boxed versions of the game rules, fine. I know some people love that stuff and they’re welcome to it. I just wish they would sell the mini version of the rules (the one that ends up in the starter set) separately. Normally I’m all for fluff, but for $80+ dollars I’ll take the mini rulebook and a box of minis, thanks. It’s also getting harder to lug all of this around as the books keep getting larger and heavier. I need a bag for my minis and another bag for my… Read more »
