Snap Up Gripping Beast’s Ordenstaat For SAGA Age Of Crusades
April 5, 2018 by brennon
Gripping Beast have put together one of their first Starter Warbands for you to pick up for SAGA II and their Age Of Crusades supplement. Here we have The Ordenstaat, the Teutonic Knights.
This band of warriors are professional soldiers, confident and disciplined in their actions on the tabletop. You get a whole host of mounted figures and heavily armoured warriors who are ready to fight in the name of God.
While I do like the mounted figures as part of the set I think my favourites have to be the knights on foot. I think the design of them is awesome, especially with all of the added pomp and ceremony to their helmets. They might be disciplined but I'm sure they wanted to look good in the midst of fighting.
Will you be picking up this set from Gripping Beast?

Nothing wrong with a Teutonic knight
Does anyone know if they used to fight in those helmets or did they have one for fancy, one for fighting?
To me these look like late great helms, so first half of 14th century. They were used in battle, the crest, or in this case horns, on top of the helm was used to identify each individual knight. (Face was covered and there was no visor to lift which made identification difficult)
I do feel there is way too many horns, these guys remind me of chaos Knights.
Loving the starter box. I’ll be keeping this in mind for when i have the book at the end of the month as i’m still undecided on a Crusades faction.
Order of Brothers of the German House of Saint Mary in Jerusalem. Can see why they just went with ‘Teutonic Order’ haha. They do look very nice but I’m always torn, for the same price as some lovely looking metals I can pick up several boxes of plastic… Granted, my own saga stuff looks very generic compared to these cracking sculpts but such is life – still, gives me something to aspire towards! I hope that with the return of the Teutons we’ll be seeing the return and fingers crossed the expansion of some of the Eastern European nations.
They would be very suitable for some of Teutonic and Livonian orders the later Crusades into Lithuania and the surrounds
Great looking heavy Knight’s,
Lovely models.
Those are really nice looking minis.
