Footsore Miniatures Muster SAGA Aetius & Arthur Warbands

Footsore Miniatures has put together three new SAGA warbands for you to snap up as you head out to do battle in Aetius & Arthur. They have worked on one Ostrogoth Warband plus two different variants for the Visigoths...
Each of the warbands gives you the Warlord and then a series of units to help build larger warbands from as you continue your collection. Inside the Ostrogoth warband (seen above) you have...
- 1x Goth Chieftain
- 4x Goth Noble Cavalry
- 4x Goth Heavy Cavalry
- 16x Goth Cavalry
It would be interesting to fight a warband like this with the ability to charge around the battlefield and really make their movement count. The heavy cavalry options really caught my eye, and I much prefer painting chainmail to cloth!
Following on from the Ostrogoths then we have two different Visigoth warbands.
The first of these warbands comes with...
- 1x Goth Chieftain
- 8x Heavy Infantry
- 16x Goth Infantry
...but you can also branch out and choose a different set up with the second set.
In here they change your heavy options into cavalry so you have a mix of both foot and mounted to work with. I'm not sure which I prefer but it's nice to have the options. I'd have to check out their Battle Boards to find out more about their skills.

Those are certainly some pretty ponies. I’ve had the Saga rulebook and a set of dice for about three years now, but I’ve got faction option paralysis! Cavalry could be a moajor selling point, though.
It’s such an interesting moment in history that I think I will be giving it a go. Saga is a great system anyway that it’ll be had to avoid.
Isn’t it amazing how we never know when we need a bunch of miniatures until we see them? Yes, please! 🙂
These are lovely minis. Just a question for those in the know do you need the core saga rules to play this supplement or is it a stand alone? (With Lloyd and Justin banging on about Saga on the weekenders , I am getting slightly curious)
You’ll need either the Dark Ages or Crescent and the Cross as the A&A book does not have the base rules in it.

they look great are goths not a more red/black colour’d uniforms?
unlike the romans the goths didn’t have a uniform as they weren’t a professional army. Colour is mostly conjecture based on paints and pigments available, it may be that there was a specific colour favoured but I’ve not seen any mention of one relating to either of the goths, there are records for example of Norwegian vikings being required to paint their shields red and white so if someone has a better source of books it may be in there.
Long story short, it’s entirely up to you. Red and black is obviously best though, an Dun abu 😉

I have them sitting in a box for as soon as I finish their Irish, of course I’ve been told that the Irish cav are coming shortly so that project may get extended a little.
Saves a few pennies too buying them this way. Good thing about Dark age armies there are always quite a few figures who don’t look out of place in the ranks of another faction.
These look great. I am just beginning my ‘ journey ‘ into SAGA and, as @huscarle says, these would fit into many a faction. Choices, choices 😀 .
