WizKids Welcome New Young Adventurer Models For RPG Gaming!
July 19, 2017 by brennon
WizKids is working away on some great new models for Young Adventurers to play with when they get stuck into the likes of Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder. See what you make of their first set of kids!
All of the miniatures will come as pre-painted heroes, ready to go out of the box. Whilst obviously here we're seeing the 3D renders one hopes they're going to make these look bright and inviting for younger players.
There also looks to be a good mix between the boy and girl models that we're seeing and hopefully, much like with their adult D&D line, we'll see variations on the classes for both boys and girls.
The models are looking great and I love that they have also included Companion Beasts for all of the models giving them something else to get invested in. I really like the design choices they've made too with all of the characters showing off fun and happy expressions which mean a lot!
With the images of the old D&D cartoon still burned into the mind of most of us heading into our thirties and older it's great to see something like this come to life as it scratches a bit of a retro itch and should help bring new gamers into our world.
Overall, I think this is a superb idea and I can't wait to see what the models look like. Even with a few touch ups here and there to the paint schemes by parents, or the kids themselves, this could be a lot of fun.
What do you think?

If they have like a Cleric disciple or a aspiring Paladin that would be cute.
None of those look particulary good.
I love the style for Kids to get into RPGs.
Definitely, anything to get kids distracted and using their imagination is good in my book.
Now if only the computer painted renders would look anything like the finished product ……
They aren’t a bad idea though.
To be honest, while I have never seen a ‘premium prepaint’ from WizKids, the premium offerings from Paizo are very close to the renders so it is certainly achievable. I wouldn’t be surprised if the only real difference will be the lack of highlights and shadow (thanks to the lightsource from the render) and no doubt the colours on the final product will be as flat as a pancake.
However.. a few seconds dipped in AP Quickshade and you will have a VERY serviceable model 🙂
Yay Groots in a game?
They seem to look like they took a lot of inspiration from the World of Warcraft aesthetic in a rather good way.
I picked up a few of the first run of the regular ones and if the young versions look that good and so far they do it is going to be a great addition for any player.
With exception to the ranger you cant really tell the gender. That may be good if you really wanted the other gender rather than the one they say it is.
