Wizkids Releases Marvellous D&D Miniature Heroes & Monsters
May 9, 2017 by deltagamegirl22
We heard mutterings about this a while back, but today Wizkids made it official as they announced Nolzur's Marvellous Miniatures, a line of unpainted, pre-primed Dungeons & Dragons miniatures!
Prepare to bring new races like the Dragonborn, Tiefling and Genasi into your clan or customise your Displacer beast, Beholder or even Demogorgon (who has obviously regained popularity courtesy of a popular show) to terrify the adventuring party with a plot twist.
Now your characters and monsters can be as unique and creative as the adventure itself.
But wait, there's more! There's also plans to see the addition of fantastic unpainted, pre-primed, scenery pieces added to Item Packs this fall.
They're kicking things off with the exclusive Dungeons & Dragons Ezmerelda’s waggon and there are plans for dozens of beautifully crafted terrain pieces, including a full campsite and much more.
What characters or beasties are you hoping to add to your collection?

is that “painted example” digitally painted!
Oh, the humanity!
Ha! that “painted example” is terrible. How difficult would it be to get someone to paint a prototype?
After zooming in on the pic it looks like they are both renders, which I find a little off-putting. You’d think they’d be showing of high level painted mini’s not renders!
Painted should mean Painted, and not “we colored the render.”
I’ve been really wary of this line, since they seem like they’re advertising it 100% with renders, but they’re casting in super cheap PVC that won’t hold the details.
(now, they’re digitally “painting” a translucent object that I can’t imagine would take paint the way they have it displayed).
I’m amazed they haven’t been nailed with false advertising
Wizkids has been advertising exclusively with coloured renders ever since the merger with NECA; and it’s utterly disgusting. They show beautiful sculpts and coloured renders, then you get poorly detailed rubber lumps with so much paint on them you can’t even TELL if there is detail on them.
That being said… these unpainted minis have been actually quite nice. They suffer from the same saggy sword syndrome that reaper bones do, but they have nicer detail and they come preprimed.
the clear parts are a bonus as well, very cool.
Nice. I’ve got a Dwarf Fighter and Halfling Rogue on pre-order, can’t wait to get them.
Oops. I meant awaiting a re-stock….Knew i should have looked around Salute properly.
I actually like these ….It correct 2 of the biggest problems with D&D minis in the past 1) Random packs (ARGGGHHHHH) ans 2) $#!thouse pre paints. I have look at Whiz kids Deep Cut Pathfinder minis before and have been sorely tempted to pick up a few these could join them (and honestly they are the same range) Nice work Whizkids
ok i want to see what their beholder, demogorgon, etc will look like 🙂 hopefully we can see images soon…
on a side note, nothing new from GF9 D&D line in a long time… i wonder if they are done doing D&D collector series 🙁
Cool stuff. Good to see they are making great steps away from the old pre-paints. Now lets hope they are competitively priced to compete with the Bones range.
I picked up a Unicorn from that range from my FLGS… only $7AU and looks like great detail, almost no mould line to be seen!
After not being impressed at all with the pre-painted stuff and not liking the idea of random packs, I’m interested to see how this pans out. I was listening to a Podcast interview with the people from WizKids a few weeks back. They talked about the pre-painted mini’s, why they look so drab and their justification for randomised packages. I didn’t really buy their randomisation reasoning if I’m honest. However, they did discuss the new unpainted line which sounded quite cool. Particularly hero miniatures where you will get three in a pack; a low, mid and high-level mini so your… Read more »
Looking forward to seeing the Campsite stuff in a few months time, It will help make my flgc’s Frostgrave tables look pretty.
An update from the guys at WizKids…
“The original wave of unpainted miniatures has been reprinted and should be back in stock by the end of May. The next set of unpainted miniatures (Wave 2) should hit stores at the end of July/early August and Wave 3 will be shortly after that. We hope to have the first four waves out by the end of the year.”
So pretty good 🙂
I really hope Beholder and Demogorgon are part of the summer release. Want to see what they look like. THe wording is strange though: “…or customise your Displacer beast, Beholder or even Demogorgon”
What do they mean by customize? are they releasing conversion packs for their prepainted D&D models or for other branded sets? or are they gonna release an actual demogorgon model?
Just noticed the wording is strange….
I bought some of the first wave here in the US, and I have to say they take wash colors really well.
When it comes to repainted miniatures that are not ships WK doesn’t really have competition that would force them to step up they game so these are only option for those that want repainted miniatures for they DnD session.
I could see a use for the terrain.
I bought a couple of these at my LFGS, and the quality is pretty good. Painting up a wizard right now and it is a joy! Happy to see more of there minis!
so the press release said demogorgon but if you check the wiz kids site, they updated it to say yuan ti instead.
i did see demogorgon listed at their site before…
