Wizards of the Coast Releases 1st Edition AD&D Players Handbook In PDF
July 8, 2015 by stvitusdancern
Oh the memories I have of sitting around my friend's kitchen table on Saturday or Sunday afternoon playing Dungeons & Dragons for hours on end. My collection of books has long since passed, much to my dismay.
Well, WotC (Wizards of the Coast) must have heard of my sorrow and have published the 1st edition AD&D Players Handbook into PDF form and it is now available on DriveThruRPG.com. This is the true classic Gary Gygax masterpiece and to me is still the heart and soul of the AD&D universe.
This is when TSR was just a few hours drive from my home and it felt like we always got the new stuff before the rest of the world.
It was amazing how much AD&D had developed from the orgional D&D and became this even more intricate world that we all envisioned in our minds and molded with the help of our amazing DM (yes, it was I). I cherish those memories and now I can have that book I spent many hours lost in its pages.
I have always preferred the real thing in my hand, but to have the library at my disposal is a good thing too, grab your copy today.
Do you have fond memories too?

One in a long list entitled, “Books I used to own and wish I hadn’t thrown away” :/
I still have several Player’s Handbooks, two DM guides, at least two of each of the monster books, and even a few Unearthed Arcana, complete with the exploding binding that plagued that particular tome. Just rolled up a new character for a friend a few days ago. No dust on those books! But they are getting long in the tooth, so it would be good to have an electronic version to refer to. Great idea.
I gave my copy to a friend so although I kind of wish I still had it, at least I know it went to a good home and saw use well after I’d have retired it.
Happy memories. I still have the Fiend Folio somewhere
Time to save those pennies.
Sadly, I never have played or read First Ed… (gasp!). It’s tragic, I know. I got into the hobby with AD&D (which was awesome). I still have a couple of the books, but most of them mysteriously went missing… only to turn up years later at a friend’s house (minus a couple of the best ones). Sad days.
I am really tempted to check out the 1st Ed. It’s a classic after all!!
