Face Urban Fantasy & Occult Horror In Osprey’s Sigil & Shadow RPG
May 3, 2021 by brennon
I am a big fan of Urban Fantasy as a genre. I have a lot of time for The Dresden Files and books of its ilk! So, when Osprey Games previewed their upcoming roleplaying game, Sigil & Shadow, I was most intrigued!
Sigil & Shadow // Osprey Games
Sigil & Shadow comes from the mind of R.E. Davis and is an uncanny mirror of our own world. You will take on the role of "illuminated" heroes who are able to see the other side. This means having to face down shadowy monsters and the rise of unsavoury supernatural forces.
"Ancient nightmares lurk behind the closed doors of board rooms, entities from beyond time prowl the city streets, forgotten rituals are reborn as viral memes. Do you take a stand against the encroaching shadows? Or do you seek their power for yourself?"
The game is powered by the d00Lite system which makes use of the percentile system. It's a good one, especially if you're looking for a lot of variance in your rolls and the outcomes. There is also a big focus on the story being centre stage instead of the mechanics. This means that roleplayers will have to think about what and why they are doing something. I always like this as it often means that you get more creative and evocative moments around the tabletop.
Sigil & Shadow isn't directly tied to a particular mythos either so it can be adapted to suit something like Cthulhu or World Of Darkness if you prefer. Maybe you want to make it suit something more akin to American Gods? The game and its systems allow for that. It also means you can take on the role of investigators and monster hunters or someone a little less enlightened!
Are you tempted to give this one a go?

I’m bookmarking this on Amazon now!
Looking forward to July now.
This is quite a departure for Osprey Publishing. I love the idea and will order this one. I backed a similar themed game on Kickstarter, Etherfields by Awaken Realms. I have developed a taste for the weird and metaphysical gaming experience.
