Urban Decay & Pressure RPGs Coming Soon From Osprey Games
November 15, 2023 by brennon
Osprey Games are soon going to be releasing two awesome-sounding roleplaying games for you to dive into with your friends as the cold nights draw on. Those cold, dark and oppressive Winter nights are going to be a great match with the first of these roleplaying games, Pressure.
Pressure // Osprey Games
Pressure: Industrial Science Fiction Roleplaying takes cues from Jonathan Hicks' first game in this style, Those Dark Places. You'll be diving into a rules-light and story-focused game where humanity is on the edge of being dragged into the darkness.
You will play as highly skilled agents of the Special Operations Squad. Your task? To clean up after the Corporations and the messy trail that they have blasted through the galaxy. You'll be sent in to deal with organised criminal gangs, take down rebels and clean up what that eager excavation team unearthed on that shadowy planet. Those Dark Places left you pretty bereft of tools to deal with the terrible situations that you find yourself in. Pressure allows you to lock, load and deal with those damn bugs!
I've really enjoyed Jonathan Hicks' work in the past and I think that Pressure sounds like it could be another excellent option for Industrial Sci-Fi fans. Think of this as Aliens to Those Dark Places' Alien.
Beat 'Em Up Roleplaying
In a different style entirely, you've also got Urban Decay: Beat 'Em Up Roleplaying. I suppose this also slots quite nicely into that late 20th-century retro vibe that folks are getting from both of these roleplaying games!
Urban Decay // Osprey Games
The gangs have taken over and it's up to you and your companions to put things right. Assembling a crew of kick-ass fighters, you're going to be tasked with taking back the streets one neighbourhood at a time. Drawing on beat 'em up action from classic video games, movies and comics, you'll play as "warriors", martial artists, vigilantes and in some cases ordinary citizens who have decided to pluck up the courage to make a stand.
The character creation process is simple and easy to dive into with a big focus on creating shared bonds and goals between different characters at the tabletop. Urban Decay also uses the Clash system to get that beat 'em up style action to the tabletop. Additionally, players will work together to build The City that they are fighting over, giving a character to the streets that they are wandering and a reason to fight for their creation! I really like that and it helps to give ownership over the game to the players rather than just the gamemaster in charge.
John-Matthew DeFoggi, the creator of Urban Decay has also worked in the past on Jackals which is a great roleplaying game worth checking out if you've not done so before. It certainly shows that he's got the chops to do something fun and innovative in the roleplaying space.
Urban Decay releases on the 23rd November and Pressure on the 30th November!
Could you be tempted to dive into some retro-style RPG action with Osprey Games?

Pressure, a game where you’re the cleanup crew? Interesting concept. It sounds like I’ll be revisiting my military sci-fi audiobooks for inspiration.
Urban Decay makes me think tou could do “lighter” forms of gang condlict with ideas from things like the anime series Air Gear and the old game Jet Set Radio.
