At the core of the new set of releases is the main rulebook from Free League. This is a hefty tome that contains all of the information that players need to create 5E adventures set in Middle-earth. You get access to six heroic cultures from Eriador alongside six new classes to play, adversaries for you to face and the now well-known rules for journeying, attending councils and discovering lost artefacts across the land.

Middle-earth has already seen a release featuring the 5th Edition rules thanks to Cubicle 7 and Adventures In Middle-earth. Whilst The One Ring is a sterling system for roleplaying in Middle-earth, it's good that we're seeing the option to roleplay using the 5th Edition system as well. This might be a good jumping-off point for someone to move from the traditional settings of The Forgotten Realms and such and engage in some fun adventures in Tolkien's world instead. It helps that the new books are going to feature the absolutely gorgeous artwork and design that we've come to know and love from Free League's books.
As well as the new rulebook, there is also a second tome coming out with the initial set of releases. Prepare for some Shire Adventures!
Shire Adventures 5E // Free League Publishing
Shire Adventures features five short adventures and seven pre-generated characters that you can use to get started with The Lord Of The Rings Roleplaying. Spend time with Bagginses, Tooks and Brandybucks as you explore the Shire using the 5th Edition rules. If you've already played through The One Ring Starter Set then the adventures here will be familiar as they have been adapted from that rather splendid set.
There is also this rather wonderful Loremaster's Screen & Rivendell Compendium set which comes with beautiful artwork featuring a Fellowship in the heart of combat.

The Rivendell Compendium also gives you some additional information for exploring the Last Homely House and interacting with Elrond and his household. You'll also get additional rules for playing as the Elves of Rivendell in your games of The Lord Of The Rings Roleplaying.
If you want everything, there is also this full bundle which comes with both of the books, the supplement and the Loremaster's Screen.

Pass for me, I dived into the adventures in middle earth books, which was also 5e.
If I’m honest I don’t think it quite worked, 5e doesn’t quite capture middle earth very well, or at least not the books, if the game was based off of the movies then maybe but personally it didn’t feel quite right.
I like the 5th Edition version but I am properly sold on The One Ring. I think that captures Middle-earth so well. Will be reading through these books BUT deffo a One Ring fan.
The Rock playing D&D OOH.
I might check this out, 5th Ed isn’t perfect but, one less system to learn! I’D be tempted to run a game before the famous tales of Bilbo and Frodo…!
