When you dive into Zombie Road, you'll be taking on the role of yourself and seeing how you'd fare when it came to the end of the world and a zombie apocalypse. As well as playing as yourself, you'll also encouraged to play in locations that you know well. This could mean your hometown, a nearby city or somewhere familiar to your group. This means that when you dive into the game, you'll be able to make use of local resources like maps (and your own knowledge!) to craft a fun experience catered to your group.

Gameplay-wise, Zombie Road still has you making "you" as a character and dropping you into this larger-than-life world. As you can see in the core book, you get loads of awesome material to start telling your stories and there is even a free Quickstart Guide with a neat one-shot for you to start learning the ropes of Zombie Road.
Mechanically, the game uses the classic D6 which you will add to using bonuses from your statistics. If you get one to four then you've failed, if you roll a five then you've failed BUT you can push it by taking a calculated risk which can lead to complications. If you get a six-plus then you've succeded. Great job, you're not dead!
If you're interested in learning more about the game, you can watch character creation and a full actual play from the team...

A zombie horror game where you play yourself… erm… that’s been done… 10 years ago… https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2014/9/3/the-end-of-the-world/ From the FFG website… “Better Me than You In the majority of roleplaying games, you take on the persona of a fictional character – ranging from a elven thief to a half-orc war-mage to a human soldier, and beyond. The End of the World line changes all of this by inviting you to play as yourself amidst the tumult of the world’s ending! You’ll use your own physical, mental, and social attributes to create yourself as an in-game character, allowing you to come as… Read more »
Hey! We knew about it when we got started. We have the benefit of a more enlightened and educated era of TTRPGs with much more “freeing” and out of the box ideas coming out in the last decade. Think Shadowdark – it’s not that different to D&D yet it’s still worth trying and playing. Same can be said about Pathfinder or games in any genre. There will always be similar games, but Zombie Road is plenty different both in it’s mechanics, attitude and themes. Zombie Road is more simple, faster and more action focused to begin with and we hope… Read more »
A friend of mine suggested this long ago, but I blew him off. I’m not really keen on the idea of actually putting myself and loved once in such a gritty and depressing setting.
And if your going for a more lighthearted zombie splatter fest, I feel including known people would make it too heavy. Though the thought of taking on my old zombified boss sounds tempting
Hi! Our attitude towards this possibly beign pretty grim is your latter take. Instead of tackling the depressing part of it, we want players to implement elements of their real life they would want to face in such a setting – such as facing a zombified celebrity or old boss. We have some suggestions in the book how to handle this (namely your familiy being safe somewhere “offscreen” and you beign out gathering resources and finding yourself in the middle of a mission). But all this is optional in the game – just like playing yourself. You can become anyone.… Read more »
