Steamforged’s Epic Encounters Hit The Ruins Of Symbaroum!
November 8, 2024 by brennon
Steamforged Games are joining forces with Free League Publishing to produce a range of miniatures, maps and adventures that suit the 5th Edition twist on Symbaroum, Ruins Of Symbaroum. Epic Encounters sets are on the way!
The Gem In The Barrow // Epic Encounters: Ruins Of Symbaroum
The first of the big sets from Steamforged Games contains miniatures, battle map and adventure for The Gem In The Barrow. The Gem In The Barrow takes you deep into the realm of Ambria as part of a race against different factions to claim a much sought after gem.
"Your players will compete against rival factions (or even join forces with them) as they seek to claim a mysterious, heart-sized gemstone from an ancient barrow. The extent of its powers are unknown, but the allure of its magic endures. Will the heroes unravel the secrets of the gem without being caught in the crossfire between the groups vying to control it?"
This set gives you everything that you need for setting up encounters for Ruins Of Symbaroum (and by extension Symbaroum itself). Whilst the contents are designed for encounters themed around the 5th Edition spin on Free League's roleplaying game, they could also be used for any other Symbaroum adventures you have planned.
Barbarian // Epic Encounters: Ruins Of Symbaroum
The set comes with five player character miniatures so you can take on the role of mighty warriors, mages and rogues of Davokar. As well as that, you also have four Elf Warriors and their Leader, four Goblins and their Illgoblin Priest and then four Barbarians and their Barbarian Champion.

The set also comes with the full, double-sided illustrated battle map and the adventure book which will guide a storyteller through setting up and running the different encounters. You will also get all of the tokens you need to play as well.
Miniatures // Epic Encounters: Ruins Of Symbaroum
Symbaroum is an absolutely fantastic Dark Fantasy world from Free League and one that I would highly recommend diving into. Ruins Of Symbaroum could be a great bridge for those who already enjoy 5th Edition D&D. There is even a full Starter Set to get you stuck into this world which is worth checking out.
If you want to make your encounters even deadlier then you can also get another big set for Ruins Of Symbaroum, The Corrupted Coloss.
The Corrupted Coloss // Epic Encounters Ruins Of Symbaroum
When confronted by the Coloss, you have a choice to make. It might be terrible and deadly but there could be a chance that the creature can be dragged back from the brink...
"How will your players confront the titanic Coloss? Will they destroy it, or attempt to drag it back from the grip of corruption? No matter what they choose, their path will be fraught with peril, but the sacrifices they make could save many innocent lives."
You will find the miniature alongside a full adventure surrounding it. I do love a campaign where you have to make real choices during adventures and in this one, does the corrupted Coloss deserve to be saved or defeated, crushed so that it cannot cause any more damage?
The Corrupted Coloss - Miniature // Epic Encounters: Ruins Of Symbaroum
Much like with the first set, this one comes with a big double-sided battle map and all of the additional tokens that you need to play as well. Pair this with The Gem In The Barrow for an excellent adventure with your friends at the tabletop.
Are you going to be picking up these sets?

Nice minis
They’re nice but there’s just a little too much cartoonishness to them, especially the barbaian with the axes. The monsters are incredibly nice though, I could be tempted to get them. I would say, however, to anyone wanting to try Symbaroum to buy the Symbaroum rules. They are vastly superior to 5E. Not difficult given that Paper/Scissor/Rock is better than 5E… sorry, couldn’t help that little dig at D&D, however the Symbaroum rules were written for that world and they contain dedicated mechanics for all the things needed for that world. The rules reflect the dark themes of the world… Read more »
