Adventures In Middle-Earth Player’s Guide Gets PDF Release

Cubicle 7 have now released the Adventures In Middle-Earth Player's Guide in PDF Form allowing you to adventure in the world of Tolkien's imagination using the 5th Edition D&D system.
This sourcebook will allow you to create characters and stories based in the world of Middle-Earth. It draws on new Classes and 'Cultures' from Tolkien's work as you battle against the forces of Sauron and his shadowy will.
One of the big changes is that they have dropped the alignment system in favour of tracking corruption as players succumb to the will of Sauron or indeed battle against it and prove themselves valiant heroes against him.
As a big fan of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings I think I'll be picking this up. The chance to delve into Middle-Earth with a familiar D&D system might encourage others into this tabletop gaming medium too.

I wanted to pick this up before but then when I heard it was going to D&D I thought I would wait.
I had heard that the characters could get a bit untouchable in the previous version .
my first game was merp so i’ll always have a soft spot for a Tolkien RPG.

I’m a big fan of choice, so am pleased that this is available, but I really hope that it will raise the profile of their own system Cubicle 7 designed for the setting. It really is so characterful. I enjoyed playing DnD back in the day, and to be fair I haven’t tried later versions, but I feel that game design has moved on and there are more interesting and more intuitive ways to roleplay these days. I think part of the problem is so many board and computer games were based on D&D that when new players are introduced to real pen and paper RPGs they expect and are most comfortable with D&D style rule sets. It’s a self renforcing system. I’ve had a lot of trouble trying to get even experienced players to try anything outside of the class/level/hitpoints bubble and it’s like pulling teeth!
So basically I’ll be getting this and probably get friends to play with me where they had steadfastly refused to play “The One Ring” rules version.
I think it will be good for everyone. it wouldn’t happen if they both didn’t stand to benefit .
the one ring has some great mechanics from what I’ve seen and a D&D version would need to incorporate some of the features that make the one ring such a beautiful and clever way of approaching Tolkien . also the one ring art work is really good.
Tolkien should take centre stage though and a lot more people will wandering the sacred pages of the great mans work now.
I will be interested to see what they do with healing as I mentioned on another group there many Clerics in Middle Earth
