Play Matt Mercer’s Blood Hunter Class In D&D 5th Edition
January 12, 2018 by brennon
If any of you have caught up with the new series of Critical Role (I know some of you are Critters!) then you might want to check out the Blood Hunter Class which was used by one of the characters in the new Dungeons & Dragons campaign.
A mix of different styles and pop culture references, the Blood Hunter is a great looking character for someone who wants to skirt the edge of mortality. They make use of techniques and ideas that some might frown upon in order to track down and bring their enemies to justice.
Think of them a little bit like Geralt from The Witcher, Kaulder from The Last Witch Hunter and maybe a bit of the Warlock thrown in for good measure. They can play around with all manner of potions and alchemical mixtures or even give themselves over completely to lycanthropy if they wish.
It is available over on the digital resource, D&D Beyond, which is a neat way of keeping your character's stuff in one place.
Are you going to be giving this class a go?

i’ve not seen it yet but i can’t wait to see how the class plays. sounds like it will give you some inbuilt story telling depth. also when you’ve taken the character where you want to go you can have them go feral at a suitable traumatic point.
I would definitely be interested, but at the moment I am playing a Cleric in one group, a thief in another (although they play with the dreaded 4th edition rules :/) and a Ranger in a third group. And I’m DM’ing a Fate game as well as learning some Star Wars. So I think it’ll be a while before I can give it a go. Looking very much forward to seeing how it plays on #CriticalRole though. Thursday is fast becoming my favorite morning 🙂
I love the Blood Hunter! I played one in my last campaign and they’re a lot of fun. A bit complex at first, but you get used to it. If you want help making one I found this guide really helpful: https://www.playandground.gg/blood-hunter-5e-class-guide/
