Wizards Of The Coast recently previewed a new Starter Set that is coming to 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons. This new set, Dragons Of Stormwreck Isle, will be a new avenue for you to dive into some classic Fantasy roleplaying.
Dragons Of Stormwreck Isle Starter Set (Cover) // Dungeons & Dragons
As is the case with a lot of Dungeons & Dragons themed sets, the focus will be on battling monsters, finding treasures and tackling epic bosses at the end of epic quests. Inside, you'll find the essential rules for playing the game plus five ready-made characters that you can take charge of.
The setting is Stormwreck Isle where your heroes get caught up in a war amongst dragon kind. What secrets will you uncover and will you be able to best some of these towering drakes?

As you might have gathered from having a look at the artwork for this set, it leans on the classic Dungeons & Dragons cartoon! I think that's a fun direction to take things and features the classic archetypes that we're aware of plus offering up a little bit of a nostalgia kick for older gamers.
Acrobat // Dungeons & Dragons
Cleric // Dungeons & Dragons
Fighter // Dungeons & Dragons
The focus of this Starter Set is on those who are very fresh to the game. There will even be a QR code in the set that links through to a getting started portal online. There are also step-by-step guides to reading stat blocks and character sheets and getting your head around all the numbers.
Paladin // Dungeons & Dragons
Wizards // Dungeons & Dragons
The rules carry characters from levels one through to three so hopefully the adventure booklet has enough content in it to keep you at the tabletop without having to go buy the big books. I always like starter sets that go above and beyond the contents of their box. Fingers crossed this does the same.
Oh, and it has dice of course!

I think this is the starter set some people have been saying may be based on the old 1980’s animated show, mostly based on how The archer looks on the box art. If it is the nostalgia might get me to buy it.
Yes, they do look familiar 🙂
