Modiphius Announces Their New Star Trek Adventures RPG
July 21, 2016 by deltagamegirl22
With this year being the 50th Anniversary of one of the biggest Sci Fi series in history, Star Trek, it's no surprise that we're seeing a resurgence in Star Trek games. But what we haven't seen in a while is a Star Trek RPG - until now. Modiphius Entertainment is excited to announce their development of Star Trek Adventures, the first new Star Trek RPG in more than a decade.
"Since I was a kid, I dreamed of sitting in the Captain's chair and boldly going on my own voyages," says Modiphius Entertainment's Publishing Director Chris Birch. "With Star Trek Adventures we can all explore our own stories in the worlds of Captain Kirk, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer and many others."
What Can We Look Forward Too?
Star Trek Adventures will use the Modiphius 2d20 game system (Mutant Chronicles, Infinity, Conan, John Carter of Mars) designed by Jay Little (Star Wars: Edge of the Empire, X-Wing Miniatures Game). They are also sculpting an entire Star Trek Miniatures line to go along with this endeavor, which is the first in seventeen years!
Models will include 32mm resin and metal classic Star Trek characters and crews, boarding parties and away teams. There's even talk of geomorphic tile maps of burning Federation ships, mysterious colonies and embattled Klingon cruisers to set the scene and offer dramatic new voyages for the players to explore.
If all of this wasn't exciting enough, the attendees at Gen Con are in for a real treat as they will be offered the first opportunity to sign up as playtesters to participate in shaping the game in a live campaign playtest.
Each player will experience the game differently based upon the ship they are assigned, and Gen Con attendees will be allowed the extra honor of choosing their ship as well as receiving a free model of either Captain Kirk or Captain Picard when they register.
Additional signups will be managed online in late August and attendees at Essen-Spiel in Germany in October and Dragonmeet in the UK will be offered the same awesome opportunity as Gen Con- choice of ship and a free mini.
Star Trek Adventures is slated for a summer 2017 release and until then you can sign up for Starfleet on the Modiphius Star Trek page, and stay tuned for our interview with Chris Birch at Gen Con.
Are you looking forward to this Star Trek from Modiphius?

This looks great! I am glad it will focus on everything Star Trek except the JJ Abrams films.
Abrams movies are perfectly serviceable, if slightly mindless, sci fi action flicks, but they miss the point Star Trek by a county mile. It may come as a shock to Hollywood that, contrary to expectations in some quarters, Star Trek isn’t actually about big space battles, fisticuffs and making sure there is a steady supply of green and otherwise unusually hued women for Kirk to lust after – it was originally conceived as a sort of sci fi morality play that could deal with contentious social issues through the lens of science fiction. The various TV shows mostly did a… Read more »
In fairness, the resurrection blood is no more far fetched than the Genesis device regenerating Spock’s body… but the social commentary in the new Trek films is indeed paper thin, and the action and special effects are rather heavy.
Caught Beyond in the wee hours of this morning, and whilst it is a very entertaining action flick (an effect of both modern “tentpole” film-making and having Justin Fast & Furious” Lin at the helm) it also come closest to nailing the spirit that lies beneath Star Trek. Can’t fully articulate that (running on 5 hours sleep right now) but I’d recommend it.
My thought exactly! 🙂
Woo hoo! Looks great!
This is great news! I was a big fan of Last Unicorn Games’ Star Trek RPGs, but they just weren’t quite there and not popular with my players. I think a 2D20 version should be perfect, and miniatures is an added bonus.
star trek really should have an rpg. I backed infinity rpg , not that its a problem but they have underestimated how much it slows the process having to have everything passed by corvus belli. I guess they know what their in for this time . modiphius are going to kickstarter a lot. I hope they have the ability to continue producing material for all these titles . that being said now they have star trek i don’t think they need to take on another sci fi ip. fantasy flight have star wars so its not like they can upgrade… Read more »
This isn’t going to be Kickstartered, so I think it will work very differently.
If only I had an RPG group these days.
A friend of mine regularly runs Pathfinder sessions for a group spread between the UK and US using Google Hangout. No need to have people in your local area if you want to get sessions in.
You can start one!
Check out Roll20; I’m currently in a D&D group that uses it to play and we have several players spread out over the UK, one in Sweden, one in Denmark and one in the US.
There relasing minis of the crews as well so i can see lots of away team mission skirmish games!!
sounds great.
Interesting stuff – all the popular TV series are covered. Should be great for dedicated Trekkies everywhere, and the underlying rule set is very solid to boot.
Imagine the fun that could be had with game mechanics covering things like Q turning up to amuse himself at the expense of the crew.
Star Trek already has three RPGs, perhaps more, including a GURPS setting… but since they were all clunky eighties and nineties monsters, I approve of this new… well, this new enterprise.
The first I can remember is the FASA one, then there was LUGTrek, the one that came straight after (Decipher did it maybe? – I have it somewhere) so if there was a GURPS that’s four. And that’s not including Prime Directive or any other Starfleet Battles ‘Trek without the famous characters’ games. But it’s been a while, and something fresh would definitely be welcome.
Not a RPG player, but if the minis are good I’ll definitely check those out!
Can’t tell you how happy this made me, really looking forward to this one.
I’m thrilled that Trek is getting some game love. I’m hoping we’ll see a good range of multi-part miniatures (TOS being my favourite). I’m a big fan of the original FASA game. Clunky as it may be, it was close to canon in the early days, and that earned a lot of brownie points with me.
Presumably everyone plays a red shirt and thus has to roll up a new character every session
😉
