Kobold Press Launch Tales Of The Valiant RPG Kickstarter
May 26, 2023 by brennon
Kobold Press, one of the first companies to make a statement about the Dungeons & Dragons and Wizards Of The Coast situation earlier in the year, has now launched their project to keep the 5th Edition community independent with their Fantasy roleplaying game, Tales Of The Valiant.
Tales Of The Valiant Kickstarter // Kobold Press
Tales Of The Valiant takes the 5th Edition rules which have been made available via Creative Commons and builds on them with their own portion of Kobold Press flair. A lot of the classic elements of 5th Edition Dungeons & Dragons are present but there are also loads of additional elements worked into the rules to match how Kobold Press likes to play.
Player's Guide Contents // Tales Of The Valiant
For example, you'll find classic lineages like Dwarves and Elves alongside classes like the Fighter, Wizard and Rogue. But, Kobold Press has also introduced classes like the Mechanist and explored lineages like Kobolds, Outsiders and Beastmen. This has also been expanded on with a variety of new talents, spells, monsters and other options.
To this end, Tales Of The Valiant has been designed to be similar to 5th Edition and so will be easy to move over to but also available for all and can be adapted by the community that will hopefully build up around the game.
"Tales of the Valiant is built on the Creative Commons and Open Roleplaying Content licenses, so the core rules are available for everyone to expand on as part of the 5E global community. Keep your investment in 5th Edition going strong!"
All of this comes together to create quite an interesting prospect for fans of D&D and 5th Edition looking for something a little bit different, especially with D&D Next on the horizon.
Monster Vault Contents // Tales Of The Valiant
Tales Of The Valiant has been crafted to be easier to read and understand and comes with less burden on the GM thanks to "encounter-building tools, exploration encounter tools, social encounter tools, and more". They have also changed up spellcasting to make it feel epic whilst also keeping close combat interesting for those playing as martial characters.
Tales Of The Valiant- Previews & Pledges
If this all sounds interesting, you can check out the Tales Of The Valiant Preview which is available to download from their Kickstarter campaign. If that gets you fired up then it's time to check out the pledge options!

This all sounds very cool and it would be fun to give this a shot I reckon over the next while. Set aside some time over the weekend to read through the preview and see if this twist on the traditional D&D format is for you. Make sure to check out more from the crowdfunding campaign as well!
Will you be diving into Tales Of The Valiant?

As a 25 year lapsed RPGer my opinion isn’t worth much but I wish them well. And I wish WotC ill, so much ill.
wotc are feeling plenty of ill will over the ogl.
Paizo made a fortune selling Pathfinder 2 rules thanks to wotc and I’m sure other RPG companies are doing likewise.
Classic nice.
