Join The Rebellion & Take On The Empire With Fantasy Flight
August 13, 2013 by brennon
Fantasy Flight have announced the second of their Star Wars Role-Playing experiences with Age of Rebellion. This time you'll be taking to the stars with your fellow X-Wing pilots for deadly dog fights and insurgency missions against the Empire!
This is a completely different role-playing experience to the one from Edge of the Empire and while that one was focused on the more small scale engagements this one should be featuring massive battles. It's going to be interesting seeing how they handle that during a tabletop pen and paper experience.
While you seem to only be confined to playing as the Rebellion maybe you'll see something later on which allows you to take on the Rebels as the Empire!
Will you be joining the Rebellion?

Ok now this could be interesting. @brennon do you think ou could GM this?
I also wonder if you could use the X-Wing minis to support this?
They have a fairly abstract space combat system in the Edge of the Empire game that is expanded upon in this game. But I see no reason why an enterprising GM couldn’t use the X-Wing minis as props with it.
It’s a system that gives GMs more narrative control over the outcome of space battles than a tactical minis game does, but I’ve seen GMs run tactical minis games as interludes (with repercussions) in their campaigns before. It’s all up to how creative the GM is and how willing the players are to try something new.
Eh, pop down to Bristol some time and I’ll see if I can show you why I think SAGA edition provides a better set of tools for the player and GM to run an awesome Star Wars campaign 😉

That said, the quality of the FFG Star Wars stuff really does horrible things to WotC’s efforts!
What I’m really interested in from this chapter of the FFG games is the promised espionage elements. I think there are a lot of really great opportunities to play rebel spies and sympathizers deep in the core worlds. It’s something that hasn’t been done much in the Star Wars universe and I think it gives FFG an opportunity to make a unique mark on the background material.
