Iron Kingdoms: Requiem RPG Project Launches On Kickstarter
January 26, 2021 by brennon
Privateer Press has now launched their Kickstarter for the resurgence of the Iron Kingdoms Roleplaying Game. Iron Kingdoms: Requiem is a 5th Edition take on the world of Immoren that plays host to the familiar wargames of Warmachine and Hordes.

The main thrust of the Kickstarter from Privateer Press is that it's looking to bring the Requiem Campaign Setting book to the tabletop. Within this book, you'll find all manner of tables and rules which allow you to play as Humans, Trollkin, Rhullic Dwarves, Ogrun and Gobbers and the bespoke classes that fit the settings of the Iron Kingdoms.
This means that whilst you'll be able to play as soldiers, mercenaries, tinkerers and more you'll also be able to bring mighty Warjacks into your stories as well as a Warcaster perhaps. All of this is driven by the 5th Edition mechanics (made popular by Dungeons & Dragons). If you're familiar with that system then this is going to be a fun way to try something new.
Requiem Campaign Setting // Iron Kingdoms RPG
The Campaign Setting book is going to be the main port of call for those diving into the Iron Kingdoms. As well as the options for making your characters you'll also find a selection of ways to equip your heroes with the arms and armour of the setting too.

You'll also find mechanics for appropriate skills and feats that match the setting and backgrounds which help get you sorted for roleplaying in Immoren. Another of the books that you'll be able to pick up as part of this Kickstarter is the Monsternomicon.

As you might imagine, this book comes with options for introducing all manner of wild creatures and non-player characters from the world of Immoren. If you're looking to face off against howling beasts, strange eldritch demons and spirits and more than this is the option for you. If you're a Dungeon Masters/Storytelling/Gamemaster then this is what you'll want to be diving into.
Here are some samples from the Monsternomicon showing off just how much work has gone into these different creatures...

Cephalyx Monstrosity Subduer // Iron Kingdoms RPG
The last of the three main books as part of this Kickstarter is the adventure to get you started in the Iron Kingdoms. This is Legend Of The Witchfire!

As you can tell by the cover, this book will be a good entry-level option for those starting out with Iron Kingdoms. Running from levels one through to four, this might be a nice way to get folks who have played Warmachine and Hordes into a roleplaying game. It looks like it's going to be a fun adventure if that big bad and her servants is anything to go by!

The campaign is live now and there is a lot more that you'll be able to explore as part of the Kickstarter. There are stretch goals in the works for a lot of the obvious add-ons that you might need.
Iron Kingdoms: Requiem Early Bird Pledge
If you're interested in this project then you might want to pick up the Early Bird Pledge which is available for forty-eight hours at the start of the campaign.

This offers up all three of the books plus the GM Screen (for free) so you can hunker down behind this and keep your secrets from your players. I do like the artwork on the side facing outwards, giving you an idea as to some of the heroic and cinematic battles you can get stuck into.

Make sure to check out the campaign and let us know what you think of the ideas they bring to the table. I'm all for bespoke systems which are designed specifically for games but I think that 5th Edition and the Iron Kingdoms should be a solid match. I can see this being very fun for those who want to bring Immoren to life on the tabletop.
Will you be backing this?

I have all the old Iron Kingdoms stuff from their d6 system. The books were good for the setting and races, but the rules flawed… 2d6 is not a great system… averages don’t work well in my opinion, always hit, or miss and the combat could get bogged down.
Pledged to new system despite my issues with 5e. Hoping they can fix some of my concerns regarding the archetypes and a number of other issues.
I’ve got 16 days to drop out if I don’t like what I see.
From the looks of it, it does seem like they’ve managed to do a lot of work to make it “feel” Iron Kingdoms and that should iron out some of the problems with core 5e I reckon.
