Hands up if you don’t Paint!

So you don't paint your miniatures... shame on you...
However, all is not lost. Reaper Miniatures have come to your rescue with their Legendary Encounters range.
Now you can get your miniatures pre-painted. Now they'll not give you stunning results, but they are certainly tabletop worthy... and definitely better than bare metal or grey plastic.
Here are a few examples:
As Reaper mostly supplies the "dungeon-based fantasy" market, like Dungeons & Dragonsplayers. Their range may not be suitable for all fantasy games. However, they have a range of pre-painted Orcs and Skeletons that you can use to fill out your dungeon or army easily enough.
So what's the verdict?
BTW: There's no point in slagging off the paint job... you're not going to get a pro-paint job for this price!

I wonder how big the market is for pre-painted minis outside of comission work. Its been a long time since I saw painted stuff for sale in a store, so this is probably a good idea
I had some in my store and I don’t think I sold 1 prepainted mini. I thought they would be great for the high number baddies that you don’t care about because your killing them off right away. In my area it seams everyone had the intention of painting there minis. Did see alot of unpainted minis on the tables though. LOL
Here’s the thing: I try to paint my minis but I’ve awful motor control and my eyesight is naff – imagine holding a brush in one place while it’s really somewhere else. I’ve also convinced myself I can’t paint and thus whenever I do sit down to do so I get frustrated at the results. I know desperately what I want it to look like but I can’t ever seem to get it to look that way. Add in a job, the other half and a cat with a Napoleon complex and so, grumpy and demoralised I don’t ‘enjoy’ painting.… Read more »
Then these are just the thing for you.
You could even give them a coat of Army Painter Quick Shade and I’m sure they would look a lot better.
None of us at BoW can claim the moral high ground about having unpainted stuff… we very little time to play games… never mind paint!
You probably wouldn’t have thought it, but I completely agree ! Even though I don’t want pre-painted stuff near me, that’s only because I can (and like to) do better. I completely see the attraction for someone who isn’t in my position, and most of the pre-painted stuff i saw in my life was, honestly, not bad… If you’re satisfied with the quality of pre-painted or the end result of spray-and-dip, I’m all for quick and dirty, nice and easy… As I always say, the moment painting stops being fun is the moment you have to stop painting ! If… Read more »
You’re not doing the hobby properly Bubbles 😛
I don’t have a job or a missus, though do have a cat who thinks she is the Queen of Sheba!
but still can’t seem to finish models off and get them painted.
These aren’t for me as I do like the craft side of the hobby but for whatever reason pre painted might well be the way to go for others.
Have you thought of investing in a head loupe? Though sadly it wouldn’t help the motor control problem. Sorry to hear you have that problem. Must be frustrating.
the way i see it id rather people complain that my minis are not painted(well just primed) rather than them complain on how crap i am at painting but it saying that im currently stripping my old minis to try and repaint them after picking up tips on utube(why didnt utube come out 15 years ago then with luck i might have been good by now)
For D&D, this kind of stuff is perfect. I know that, while I’m not a bad painter, I just don’t have the time for painting all the minis I’ve bought over the years, even those I might need for my games. So, having these gives me more time to concentrate on stocking the dungeon, rather than painting.
And since WotC (D&D’s publishers) announced they were going to stop making pre-painteds, that really opened up things for Reaper. I’m looking into picking up some of these myself.
