Explore Grimdark Ulfenkarn In Age Of Sigmar: Soulbound
January 8, 2024 by brennon
Cubicle 7 have spent some time exploring the grimdark future in Warhammer 40,000: Wrath & Glory but they're also diving into some grimdark business in The Mortal Realms too. If you've picked it up yet, you can get your hands on Ulfenkarn: City On The Edge Of Death for Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Soulbound.
Ulfenkarn: City At The Edge Of Death // Warhammer Age Of Sigmar - Soulbound
If you've played Cursed City or know of the Warhammer Quest board game from Games Workshop, you'll be familiar with the vampire-ruled streets of Ulfenkarn. Under the heel of Radukar, the human population of the city is subjugated by their vampire overlords and the shambling undead warriors that serve them.

Whereas normal games of Soulbound are often focused on the superheroes of The Mortal Realms banishing their foes, Ulfenkarn expands on the rules with the Grim & Perilous Ruleset (present in the core rulebook) to make sure you face terror around every corner!
- A complete history of the city and its imminent future, spread across three narrative periods: Ulfenkarn in Peril, the Curse of Night Unending, and culminating in Radukar’s Legacy.
- Rules for playing and running games using the updated Grim & Perilous Ruleset and other optional rules and advice to help evoke the horror of the setting.
- Over Seventy unique city locations featuring unforgettable characters and challenges spread across Ulfenkarn’s varied haunted districts.
- Six fully fleshed-out and mapped adventure locations to explore, including the Ebon Citadel mega-dungeon.
- Eight brand new player Archetypes and local Subfactions. Take on the role of a Vampire Hunter, a Doomsayer of Sigmar, an Aelven Exile, a former Guard Captain of the city, and more!
- A Bestiary featuring Ulfenkarn’s rogue's gallery of villains and vicious monsters sure to put any party to the test.
You can explore Ulfenkarn during a variety of periods which is neat to see. You could either dive into the story from Cursed City or tell a different tale if you prefer. I do like the idea of perhaps running a story alongside the events of the Warhammer Quest game where you can meet some of the special characters and work alongside them.

The six adventures to get you started sound awesome and I am particularly drawn to the idea of the Ebon Citadel mega-dungeon. Could you be tempted to try Soulbound with a different spin on it?
