Fantasy Video Game Elden Ring Gets New Tabletop RPG Next Year

The epic Fantasy video game Elden Ring is going to be getting itself a brand new tabletop RPG next year. Alas, there is somewhat of a snag here in that it's only going to be available in Japan...at least for now.

Kadokawa, who helmed the release of the Dark Souls RPG for FromSoftware in 2017 are going to be taking the lead on the Elden Ring tabletop roleplaying game. The previously mentioned Dark Souls RPG seems to have gone down rather well over there and the system seems pretty well regarded. You can check out someone running through the rules over on RPG.net.

The Dark Souls RPG features its own proprietary system that matches well with the "feel" of Dark Souls and I would imagine that the new Elden Ring RPG is going to follow a similar path. It certainly seems like the previous outing from Kadokawa wasn't done "just for the sake of it" either and features some pretty interesting mechanics.

Elden Ring follows the core mechanics of Dark Souls pretty tightly but with a few tweaks here and there including more over-the-top powers and such. To that end, it will be very cool to see what gets changed or updated to match the larger-than-life feel of Elden Ring.

Will this RPG arrive in the West? Well, the Dark Souls RPG didn't and instead got picked up by Steamforged Games using the 5th Edition mechanics. So, it's unlikely we'll see the bespoke system hitting the tabletop over here in the UK or the US. BUT, never say never I guess?
