Dwarven Forge Head Down Into The Kickstarter Caverns
March 14, 2014 by brennon
Dwarven Forge have bought about their next fundraiser where they delve down into dank Caverns beneath the Dwarven realm. See what you think of this awesome looking set.
Above are the kind of tiles and wall pieces you get in one set, allowing you to build a nice encounter room for your burgeoning dungeon. The painting really brings them to life and generally sets the shiny syndrome going. Let's see what you can make with these tiles and multiple packs...
It can certainly go from the rather small and claustrophobic to the expansive. I love the idea of actually being able to play some awesome games on something like this and delve deep in search of treasure and more.
Possibly unsurprisingly the campaign has kicked its target in the gonads and there are plenty of funds drifting around for this one.
Have you delved into their Caverns?
Ah good old Dwarven Forge. The thing about their stuff is that you have to imagine Cost, Modularity and Detail and three points of a triangle. Dwarven Forge sets are very much on the base of that triangle – good modularity, good detail, bad cost. It’s a great product as long as you can afford it! 😀
Terraclips, by comparison, is good modularity, good cost, bad detail. Battlesystems is smack in the middle with good modularity, good cost, good detail.
True the cost is more than the paper alternatives, but the price for getting two sets on the kickstarter is pretty decent, considering your getting tiles that will withstand a hammer blow, or a drop from a clumsy geek (me ;D). It really is one of those ‘investments’ that can be passed down generations. I will admit though, shipping costs are a pain. But man, seeing some of the people’s unboxing from DF’s last kickstarter.. its drool worth. lol
I bought two sets of the dungeon tiles from their last Kickstarter, and after all the extra goodies from the stretch goals were added on, it was a great value! The pieces are robust, well designed, and you can actually get away with just drybrushing them. Almost any kind of paint will stick.
My only worry is that this set seems much smaller, but perhaps it will expand a lot with each stretch goal.
