Discworld Reds from Micro Art Studio
April 12, 2011 by beerogre
The stuff available at Salute 2011 is just getting more and more cool!
Here's the latest reds (greens are so 2010) from Micro Arts Studio that will be available at the show.
Hopefully we'll be able to get these guys on camera for a quick chat.

dont think much of the harry potter looking wizard but like the cute little pet dragon and the the wench doesnt look to bad either. they have some good looking terrain and other bits at their wabsore faverite being the fur moulds might pick them up as my instantmold is always in use
The Harry Pottter is actually Eric. The demonologist who summoned Rincewind. ‘Eric’ is an awesome little novel. Discworld is something really great to read. Hillarious and very wise at the same time. Really worth a read.
Of course not… It’s Ponder Stibbons from UI.
But Eric is indeed worth a read !

Noone can blame bigneily for saying that. Infact interviewers have asked Terry Pratchett if the character of Ponder Stibbons was influenced by J K Rowling’s “creation.”
To which he replied that yes he did steal the ideas for Ponder and the Unseen University from Rowling adding “I of course used a time machine.”
Ag yes! I forgot about Stibbons :). I kinda connected this mini with Eric, which i read last week 😀
Lady Sybil Ramkin, a wench ?!
Surely you must be joking !
They’re supposed to be characters from the Discworld books… If you haven’t read them, you’re bound to be less interested. Be that as it may, they’re excellent minis !

These are really nice. Love the Death on their site too, the little Rat Death is a great touch. Gonna have to go back and start reading all my Discworld books again now 🙂
Sculpting question
Would I be correct in thinking the red stuff is wax?
If not is it red play doh? lol
whatever the red stuff they are jolly nice sculpts!
I’m not sure what it is… It might be 3M’s red putty, but I don’t know… It dries very quickly and it’s not very practical to sculpt. From a mini sculptir’s point of view, its only advantage is that it can be sanded nicely, as far as I can remember. From the look of the minis, however, I’d say that’s not it at all… We’re looking at something that has more the texture of green stuff… But what is it ? I wouldn’t use it because red isn’t very legible, but if anyone knows, please share ! It’s always interesting… Read more »
As an afterthought, this may be the first casts made in some red resin before they actually cast in metal. This may explain the fact that Ponder Stibbons is put together with tack… Still, I don’t know why it’s red.

Think that is a good call Romain
Am trying my hand at sculpting minis at the moment and when I see sculpts like these looking so effortless and clean…
Makes me appreciate how good these guys are, and subsequently how much I need to improve! lol
Oh dear, I’d need few of these I think 😉 Good looking mini’s look forward to seeing more 🙂
I’ve been meaning to pick up a few of these minis for a while now and that Errol model is another to add to the “which ones to get first” list.
Between me and my parents we have a small collection of old, dunno if you can still get them, 6″ ish statues of discworld characters so it seems like a nice way to continue that.
