D&D Collectors Set… Dragons!
November 25, 2011 by beerogre
No Dungeons & Dragons game would be complete without Dragons and Wizards of the Coast have reeleased this Collectors Set of the 5 evil, Chromatic Dragons.
Here's what Wizards have to say about the box:
Of all the monsters in the world, dragons are the most feared. A fledgling group of adventurers might have what it takes to best a weak dragon, but the most powerful dragons are awesome, devastating creatures that rival even the gods.
Inside this limited-edition box set, you will find the five most iconic evil dragons in the Dungeons & Dragons game.
Each box contains five non-random, pre-painted, durable plastic miniatures for use in the Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game. Two of the dragons are new sculpts that have never appeared in any previous D&D miniatures product.
Those miniatures are kinda small for being dragons when you compare them to normal DnD miniatures made from human characters and human sized humanoid charachters like elves.
When you see them close up they probably cover the Large Dragon bases of some of the basic adult/young dragons in D&D. Of course it won’t be the size of something like the Ancient ones – but it should look right in terms of scale.
We have one of the large dragon models for our group and it still looks pretty dominating when its leering over your other minis.
If you look on top of the glass cabinets on the BoW set, you’ll see my Gargantuan Blue & Black dragons… and the awesome Colossal Red Dragon!
Just set that beside you when you’re about to start a game and watch the faces.
Enough to send a shiver down the spine of even the most powerful Paragon/Epic hero lol.
What about the big momma Tiamat with the five heads. Is it not iconic enough or evil enough? I know you can’t have them all.
Ah, the fine fresh whiff of nostalgia…
So, pre painted eh? How long has that been going on? Did Wizards buy out one of those Chinese sweat shop factories so they could mass pain their minis?
They have done that for years. At first they had miniature game (collectable type) called DnD Miniatures that used those but they dropped that and started to make these purely for use in DnD.
I always found the problem with the colossal red was that the base isnt the correct size for a colossal creature as it’s designed for DnD minis. Still, it looks cool though.
You can never have too many Dragons
