Cubicle 7 Introduce The Adventurers In The Age Of Sigmar RPG
March 9, 2019 by dracs
Cubicle 7 have been previewing their upcoming roleplaying game set in the world of Age of Sigmar, and have now revealed three of its characters heading out in the name of Sigmar.
While I have more of an attachment to the World That Was, one of the great strengths of Age of Sigmar as a setting is that it allows for far greater creative freedom when coming up with a story to explore.
These characters give us an idea of the sorts of figures we'll come across in these adventures, as well as the ones we ourselves will get to play as.
What character would you like to play as in the Mortal Realms?

Interesting looking characters.
I’d like to see less Sigmar stuff in the game. For wargames being a ‘fantasy space marine’ is ok (not my choice), but it’s like playing a party of paladins.
RPG characters are more interesting flawed, that’s the charm of the Old World (I don’t like World That Was… makes it sound discarded… which it is as far as GW is concerned)…
It IS the ‘Age of Sigmar RPG’ so Im inclined to disagree.
Well RPGs give you more freedom than any other game type to tailor them to your groups tastes. Set your game in a realm of your choosing and roll up the classes your players want to play. You’re only going to end up with a party of Paladins if that’s what people pick.
I think the priest character already hints at some of the not so traditional things in the game.
At least I haven’t heard ‘quick to anger’ & ‘no mercy’ as features for nice guys.

This suggests that these are just the way the characters are at the start of their adventure.
Which makes me think that these aren’t ‘traditional’ classes as seen in D&D and its clones.
btw : WFRP still exists … so if you want ‘old world’ adventures then there’s a system for that already.
AoS RPG may have a more black&white morality compared to that one.
WFRP 4 by Cubicle 7 did not inspire me from the previews and they’ve already released a hefty errata which is not good. I’d rather wait a year, or two for second printing with the errata added before I even contemplate that. Cubicle 7 seem to have taken on too much. One Ring releases are years behind schedule. They added the D&D 5 variant, two Warhammers, Lone Wolf, Dr Who, some other minor systems. They also dumped Keltia and Yggdrasil and lost the Cthulhu license. Seems to me they have too much on their plate and insufficient staff to produce… Read more »
So this is basically Sigmarines RPG. There is no charm playing Sigmarines so this is easy pass.
I would imagine it’s even easier to avoid the Stormcast Eternals in this than the wargame. You’re not exactly going to be dealing with a competitive scene or meta so if your group decides they’re not fans of a certain faction you just don’t create those character classes. The above examples look like they’re from a starter set but for groups rling up their own characters from the beginning, C7 have already listed loads of options.
Considering we have seen the cover art, and it has one hero from each main order race…you are wrong.
‘…one of the great strengths of Age of Sigmar as a setting is that it allows for far greater creative freedom when coming up with a story to explore.’
And this ‘creative freedom’ gives us a sigmarest, paladiniest Paladin…ness of Sigmar ever and ultimate cliche of a warrior-priest. Nah, pass.
Sure … but at the same time they need to sell the setting to people.
Paladins and/or Sigmarites are the one thing that has sold the wargame.
So why use something that people can not relate to in terms of what the setting (already) is ?
90% of the stories is Sigmarites vs the evil.
Personally… sigmar stuff put me off… it was the Nighthaunt that lured me into buying Soul Wars. If sigmar and his stormtroopers was wiped off the face of the Warhammer world that would be awesome… it would leave the interesting races and cultures behind. But the 10% is more interesting… people thrust into situations by circumstances and how they deal with. A military unit like the SAS is sent in to deal with a problem and they’re very good at that, but they’re not superhuman, they’re skilled and organised. They solve problems with tactics and stealth. It’s not as much… Read more »
Or you know, you could force the Armored Man of Smashing to solve a mystery, force the player go get out of his comfort zone. You know, make an interesting story for a role-playing game. Also, we’ve seen the cover art of the game. It has an Idoneth tidecaster, Kharadron endrinrigger, Sylvaneth kurnoth hunter, and then the stormcast and warrior priest. 1 character out of 5 clearly proves the game is all about stormcast, hurr durr.
You can take man out of the armour, but you can’t take the armour out of the man.
