Cephalofair Announce Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game
December 7, 2022 by brennon
Cephalofair, the creators of the number one board game Gloomhaven (and Frosthaven!), have announced that they are working on a new roleplaying game set in their Fantasy world. Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game is coming in 2023!

Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game is going to be based on the core mechanical ideals that have been present in their board games. To that end, there is a move away from dice and such that you might get in other roleplaying games and instead, we're going to see cards at the fore of how gameplay works here. As they have said, “minimize randomness and reward player savvy”.
One player will take on the role of the Gloom Master and will weave stories set in the world of Gloomhaven whilst players will get to delve into a skill system that allows them to develop their character in ways that suit them. The combat system that you're familiar with from Gloomhaven is also there and will be a major part of how you deal with your foes!

Another great bonus for those diving into this is the fact that the roleplaying game is going to be cross-compatible with the board games. That means your heroes from your board game campaigns can get stuck into in-depth roleplaying and vice-versa of course.
I am a big fan of the Gloomhaven mechanics and I like roleplaying games so I think it will be neat to see how all of this meshes together. Alongside the miniatures, Gloomhaven: The Role Playing Game will be coming to BackerKit in April 2023 and I can't wait! I sense it is probably going to go quite well.
Could you be tempted by a Gloomhaven roleplaying game?

Brilliant artwork for the game.
Isn’t Gloomhaven pretty much close to being a RPG anyway? Seems a bit frivolous, but fair enough if it makes a few people happy why not.
