Attention All Personnel MASHED RPG Now On Kickstarter, That Is All
September 28, 2016 by stvitusdancern
There was this little war that technically is still going on that was sandwiched between two other more known wars, World War II and the Vietnam War, that war is known as the Korean War.
There have been fewer books, movies, and other items to bring awareness to this lost period of time, that is still very real to many.
Now on Kickstarter is a new RPG called MASHED from Brabblemark Press. In this RPG you will create and play characters in a fictional Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) known as the 8099th MASH.
Whether that is a member of the medical staff, messing around with other members of the camp or creating the greatest prank in military history.
This game while it is meant to be fun is also educational as it takes you through all stages of the war. The game rules are based on the Apocalypse World RPG system.
There are many different options when it comes to creating your character, remember it takes all kinds to go to war and it takes a special kind of person to live through it and keep their sanity. If you are looking for a new game or even one that takes place in a unique atmosphere then this might be one for you to take a look at.
What do you think?

I loved the TV show so I’ve backed this if only to show my support – but I worry this game will have a very niche appeal. Never the less, there is no danger of this going unfunded 😉
I wonder if this can be applied to any war in any period.
Heck, what if this was set during a zombie invasion and the staff has to deal with that aspect of the war …
Remember kids : war … war never changes.
For a good time, whistle the MASH theme song quietly at your desk. See how many coworkers get it stuck in their heads by the end of the day!
Humming “Suicide is painless” may get you sent to HR. It is a catchy tune.
sorry … the muppets beat that in earworm tingling goodness : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N_tupPBtWQ
A great idea, just so long as the Korean War doesn’t last “11 years” this time (how long the M*A*S*H TV show lasted) as opposed to 3 years of actual fighting. 🙂 A great idea, the Korean War doesn’t get enough attention. I like the documents you get and the surgical chart. Definitely a switch from many wargames . . . putting people back together rather than tearing them apart. Yeah, and cool call @ghent99 – best not to forget what the song is actually about, or the show was actually about. Wasn’t the “other” M*A*S*H unit in the show… Read more »
Song was for the movie and was the biggest money maker of the movie since the TV show used it the writer got ASCAP or BMI more eye for each playing. I think the residuals continue to this day. I really hope this goes for the flavour of the novel. It was a story about men and women doing the impossible and trying to keep their sanity. The movie did a good job, for a movie and the TV show just didn’t seem to capture what the book was trying to show. As to the other unit I think you… Read more »
It’s using the same historic material and the same novel as the tv-show and movie did, but it is explicitly not related to them as it is set in 8099th MASH instead. So don’t expect to see radar and the rest of the staff, although I’m pretty sure a lot of people will use the show as inspiration. @Oriskany : the beta copy lists 7 distinct stages of the war from early fighting (when the mobility was a big factor) to the final end. So you have enough guidelines to limit the adventures to what historically happened. The list of… Read more »
interesting.
MASH was one of my favourite TV shows, would love to give this a go.
@dracs when you are back next year and we come over I’ll bring it with, I backed it and then we can get a proper game with Hawaiian shirts and whatever else we can find!
I think he would be great in full golf getup!
I’m definitely in for that. I guess I’ll be playing Radar then 😛
Quite genuinely, I’ve been teased for being short my whole life and while I don’t mind it when I was in high school I had a line Hawkeye said to Radar about not worrying about height written on the inside of my folder.
“There is height that people never see. Some people are ten ft but their bodies don’t know it.”
