AltspaceVR Allows You To Play D&D Virtually

AltspaceVR have put together a new program which allows you to play Dungeons & Dragons virtually with anyone in the world simply by logging into your own little tavern. You can see how it works above in their tutorial video...
At the moment it looks pretty basics but the fact that you can log in and move around the same space with others while you play D&D is great. Added to that the idea of 'being' in the space with VR means that you almost replicate the feeling of being around the table together in one room.
I think as this develops we'll see people get really interested in this as a medium for playing D&D. You can also sign up to become an official DM or look for groups to play with via their subreddit page.

The point of D@D is, for me, to get together as a group and socialize around the gaming table, share drinks, laughs, and a meal. This is a step back. We’ve already created a generation of social cripples. Must we add to it?
My high school and college game groups have long since spread across North America such that it’s impossible to get together to play anymore. These virtual game spaces are not as good as playing in person but are a LOT better than never playing with your friends again. A second use is for arranging old school RP sessions with folks you meet online from other parts of the world. I’ve made friends with folks all over the globe. As much as I agree with you about meeting around a table for an evening of fun, I also disagree as to “this generation” or any other being stuck in a non-tactile world as social cripples. My friends from all over the world could find a way to meet other than once every few years. The other benefit would be for this to include more games as it grows allowing me to meet virtually when I can’t do the 2hrs trip to my weekly game or while on the road for work.
This does look very interesting.
