Unboxing: Robotech RPG Tactics Zentraedi Battlepods
April 29, 2015 by dignity
We have more Robotech RPG Tactics to unbox as Carmen, who worked on the game, joins Justin to look at two variants of the Zentraedi forces Battlepods. The Regult and Artillery.
The Regult Battlepods are armed with a pair of particle cannons as well as auto-cannons. The Artillery miniatures can be made into either a Light Artillery, Heavy Artillery or Experimental Particle Beam Battlepod.
Which Battlepod would be your choice?

Great game. I’ve almost finished my Zentreadi Armada and am looking forward to 300 point mega battles :-).
Here’s some pics if anyone is interested. Scroll past the Warmachine gear.

Top class man. Nice work.
No. Just No!
The Figures are atrocious, the people behind it are shysters and the game is average at best.
Which people?

chaosanderson is correct. I meant Palladium Books. Their leader Kevin is a total tool. His ego is as big as Jupiter and he can do no wrong despite being a total incompetent. He has serious delusions of grandeur and fails to deliver on anything he says about 95% of the time. (And that’s being generous about him.)
Still these guys made rpg flats (i.e. cutouts) before this license.
What fierce underbidding or dark favors these guys did to get it I dare not guess.
But you at least need to do the footwork to go from print and play to solid physical product.
Not really. They got Ninja Division to run the kickstarter and sculpt the minis. Then after it ended Kevin basically told them to feck off. He took most of the sculpts to be split for sprues himself and just hacked everything in half because it was the only way to “preserve detail”. Which is utter balls as what he really did was take the easiest, cheapest, cut corner option – as he always does – and ended up making a right mess of things. Now we have millions of pieces for parts that could very, very easily have been made… Read more »
These are probably the best miniatures of the Robotech RPG line, make of that as you will. I still haven’t had a chance to play a test game, just not high on my priority. I did like some of the rule structure but I was pretty disappointed in the models. That said I do like the Regults.
I’ve managed to build a pair of Phalanx & Tomhawk Destroids, plus two Valkyries in both modes. I genuinely can;t bring myself to build anymore of them, and that hurts as I absolutley adore Robotech & Macross, and was looking forward to getting some of these painted up. The parts count on this scale of mini is just insane though…
I feel with you mate.
I was totally this stoked about this game and was waiting for the retail release. But there was a so much disappointment on several levels regarding this game that I couldnt bring myself to spend the money on it and invest the time.
So this game was designed to be easy to get into… then they made miniatures with hundreds of pieces that scares the most experienced among us… I think whomever designed the mini sprues wasn’t told about the design philosophy.
The game is fun and feels like the show. Definitely a game to play for fun. And yes kevin is a tool bag for sure. As far as the minis go they a not horrible but not super amazing. The zentradi are easy to put together except the recon pod that makes me want to go hulk on the mini and anything near by. The UEDF could have been better and the decisions on the layout and which parts need assembling leaves much to be desired. All in all I have put a lot together and am enjoying the game… Read more »
I have been a Robotech fan since I was a kid. We didn’t have a VCR so I recorded the entire series on a tape recorder and listened to them over and over. I had the toys, the comic books, eventually the entire DVD collection and all the RPG books. I bought a TON of stuff for this game simply out of love for the source material. That being said I built exactly 2 destroids and put the RDF sprues back in their boxes. The Battle Pods are decent and easy to put together though. I have a couple dozen… Read more »
I love the historical explimation. 🙂
I’ve got a mountain of this stuff unopened and sat in the box it was delivered in. Haven’t touched it, yet…
Okay, the main reason is that I’m too busy working on Infinity minis, but the other reason is that I’m too intimidated by the plastics to get my build on.
I’m definitely not a newbie when it comes to miniatures, but if I’m having a hard time with it, I’m thinking that it’s not what I’d describe as “easy for everyone to get into”.
How many years before I get to take my retirement? That will give me some spare time….
It bothers me that not only do Palladium continue to keep us in the dark about the status of wave 2, with only that ridiculous sentence in the disgusting Palladium spam email we all got signed up for, but also that I pay to support Beasts of War so I can read Justin doing videos like this under the name of dignity.
