Paranoid Miniatures Give Exclusive Look at Lovecraftian Sea Queen
April 3, 2015 by dracs
The horror of H. P. Lovecraft is once again coming to the tabletop as Paranoid Miniatures seek to turn his terrors into an atmospheric skirmish game.
Paranoid are teaming up with Steamforge Games, the guys behind Guild Ball, to make a game that will feature a variety of factions all inspired by the works that go together to form the Cthulhu Mythos, and each featuring cool models which, if the concept art and sketches are anything to go by, will be incredibly creepy.
The Sea Queen Conquers Salute
Paranoid will be appearing at this year's Salute, showing off all their project work to date, and will be bringing with them their first exclusive miniature; the Sea Queen.
The guys there were kind enough to send us a couple of exclusive images of this new sculpt, giving us our first idea of what the miniatures for Mythos will be like.
Wait, is the guy holding the miniature wearing The One Ring? No wonder they are creating such evil!
The model matches up with the concepts and render very well and I particularly like how well picked out the tentacle suckers are. This definitely bodes well for the rest of the game's range.
The backstory for the Sea Queen is that she is a daughter of Cthulhu, awakening now as the Great Old one stirs in his sleep and she is sent out into the world to hasten his coming by spreading bloodshed and terror. Unfortunately, she is apparently a bit too powerful to be in any of the game's factions, but she it still a superb collectors sculpt that could still be used in plenty of games.
Anyone who watches The Weekender will probably have heard me wax lyrical about Lovecraftian horror in the past. I love Arkham Horror, Call of Cthulhu and other such games. The idea of a straight up Lovecraft inspired miniatures game is certainly an intriguing one. The rich background of the Mythos certainly lends itself well to a selection of interesting factions, especially when backed up with cool miniature designs. I wonder what Paranoid have planned next?
Dare you risk your sanity and find out more about Mythos? What do you think of Salute's Sea Queen?

Miniature scale? Can’t see it on the website
That looks promising.
I’m a shameless Lovecraft fanboy, so this is the best news I’ve heard in a long time.
Unless the rules are complete crap (and since the guys behind Guildball are helping out, that is unlikely) this is a must-buy for me.
Want her now! Is she being sold online ?
The scale is 28mm
Thanks vondrasky – unfortunately the mini is not on sale right now but right after Salute we will be putting measures in place to buy her online.
Hopefully a wait of just a few more weeks isn’t too bad.
With regards to the game play for The Sea Queen, we will be designing specific scenarios that she can be used in.
in regards to the mythos in tabletop form, I’d be interested in playing yithians Vs polyps or elder things vs shoggoths, if the game can do stuff like that id be excited, but if I have to take anything remotely humanoid with arms and legs I’ll probably give it a miss.
…I wonder if their finished with my woman?
On a more ‘serious’ note – that is a beautiful mini. I want it and I don’t even know what it’s for! I’m a Lovecraft lover too and this looks very, very nice. Is this close to release? Kickstarter? D.x
p.s., could resist it!
The art and models look very nice. I’m wondering how many “factions” are envisioned? and roughly how many (different) models for each faction? I’m very interested in this. It looks like it will be quite fun.
The games core will initially be made up of five factions. Each faction on release will have 5 different models making up the starter box. The plan is that both the number of factions and available different models per faction expands post Kickstarter 2016 We want to produce a game system that is robust, well tested with models of a quality we can be proud of. With that in mind we have set spring/summer 2016 as our time frame to go to Kickstarter. This will see us attending another Salute where we will showcase faction models as well as specialist… Read more »
Thanks for the little Q&A! That was BIG Q&A in truth but very helpful and fun to read.
Ia! Ia!
You really all should have a look at Strange Aeons if you like the Mythos and miniature skirmish games.
