Armoured Clash

Knowing that the Knight codex was just around the corner I decided to give my Knight army one last hurrah under the older rules. What better to fight them but my Cadian armoured regiment. I invited a good friend of mine to take control of the tanks and I took the Knights. From the offset I knew this was going to be an uphill struggle.

Overview

The game finished in three turns with little interest in the objectives. The knights advanced but could not close the gap quick enough before the might of the imperial guns crippled each Knight one after the other. Highlights included the demolition vehicles causing carnage, the lancer missing with all its attacks twice and of course the volcano cannon one shorting the lancer. Overall a fun if not brutal show of strength from the guard, but I am looking forward to beefing up the knights with reinforcements.

Tiger Lily

The centre piece for this army had to be one of the super heavy tanks for the guard. I have loved the look of the Shadowsword since the days of epic and really liked the idea of the army being there just to support it. Using sandbags I sculpted (more on that soon) I build up some extra protection round the front, even if it is only for a psychological boost to a he crews well being.

Annihilation Leman Russ... The cheaper option.

Conversion Corner

I love the idea of the Annihilation Russ but with funds at a premium I could not afford to buy three of them to bulk out the armies dedicated anti tank options. Sitting down I came up with a plan!

Bits:

  • One Leman Russ (full kit)
  • Two Las cannons from the Cadian heavy weapons sprue.
  • Magnets (optional)
  • Lots of tea.

Exterminator weapons option on the Leman Russ Sprue. Exterminator weapons option on the Leman Russ Sprue.

First of all I clipped and prepped the bits in the usual way with files and clippers.

Next, I glued the exterminator weapon together to give me an idea where to make a cut with a saw. I decided to make the cut where the barrels finished.

Saw the barrels off. Saw the barrels off.

Next, again using a saw, cut and file the lascannons just before the targeting optics on the weapon. I also clipped off the under slung support to give a more streamlined effect.

Cut here. Cut here.

Optional Magnets

Now the optional bit. Drill holes into the reverse side of the gun mount. Green stuff and glue magnets into the drill holes. There you have it one cheap(er) Leman Russ Annihilator turret.
