About the Project

Having hit a block with painting up my miniatures I really havent done any since Christmas. I’ve joined a ‘Tale of Gamers’ campaign at my club; Southampton Sluggaz. Everyone that has joined in has chosen a faction from AoS - I’ve gone with Sylvaneth. I’m hoping to make my Sylvaneth and their forests look colourful and springlike. I want to include flowers and bugs to counterpoint the violence of the setting.

I really wanted to start on my treeman – it’s the most exciting model in the box!

For the green runes I watered down some old citadel bright green that I had and ran it into the recessed areas. Then it was a case of more dry brushing and picking out details with some spring colours.

Putting some paint down

To begin to develop the troops i shaded all the miniatures with a watered down Oak Brown from Army Painter. This is a lovely rich brown and really contrasted well with theleather brown. I am colour blind with a red green deficiency so have to do a lot of work based on paint names rather than knowing the colours themselves – perhaps a brown and green army was a bad idea!

I went back and added a second shading of athonian camoshade (Citadel) to the 3 characters (Nymph, Branchwhytch and Treelord) to amke them stand out from the crowd.

once the shading was dry I dry-brushed the figures with a variety of browns from all kinds of paint series to put some diversity into my troops. I’m planning on giving them some more variance as I progress but am still thinking about how at this point.

Everyone has started with a starter box or a 500 point force. I’ve begun with the starter box but built the treeman as an ancient because I like the model.

all components have been cleaned, built and basecoated with Army Painter Leather Brown spray.
