About the Project

As a proud new owner of a 3d printer and seemingly too much time on my hands (not) I decided I would make a table worth of terrain for Necromunda out of entirely 3D printed stuff. This includes finding 3d designs to my sci-fi gothic need, modifying or create more 3d designs, print those on the printer and last but not least, paint it .

While I prepare the first few prints for painting I couldn’t help but start on a second project for Necromunda.

These are for the Zone mortalis board version of the game . I chose to go with an even faster setting , bigger layers .26mm , less infill 10% . The results are a bit more rough but much faster . Fast enough that I could print enough to play within two weeks which otherwise would have taken month plus . I’ll have to be extra creative to hide the blemishes in these prints.

With the faster print times , to be able to print more terrain pieces , some of the quality suffers. As these are terrain pieces, I am okay with a little post processing , cleaning the stringing effect that happens on faster prints .

I am using a primer which lays on thicker than usual to hide some of these imperfections. Also the strings become more visible after spraying the primer so easier to clean.

A weeks worth of printing

The first week of owning a 3d printer is a valley of emotions, with equal number of fail prints as there are successful ones. Fortunately I started of with good source material, Most of my 3d models come from a Kickstarter by Necroplex.

As a big Necromunda fan I decided I would create terrain pieces that would be useful both for the Zone Mortalis and the Sector Mechanicus versions of the game.

I started off by printing a lot of the single piece prints . For the most part used stock printer settings, just toyed with the Layer height and temprature of bed and nozzle to get a decent print.

Here is the first weeks worth of prints :
