Gone, but not forgotten
Hello world! My blog has been quiet for a while, but I have been busy on a number of other projects and unfortunately, my beloved Empire have been badly neglected. To make up for it, this past month I have been working on finishing off the plastic empire spearmen from the Warhammer Fantasy 6th edition box – yes I did say that I have been neglecting them and 19 years is quite a wait, but they are finished!!!
In an attempt to keep the enthusiasm up on the project I have also painted up a Steam Tank that was a Christmas present from my sister nearly 3 years ago, so this has been completed a lot faster than the spearmen – I see this as a victory.
As always, I hope that you like the work, if you have any questions of comments please drop them below and I will be back with more content. Hoping to add a battle wizard or two to the force next. Thanks for reading!
Springing into Action
Despite rumours to the contrary I am still here. My much loved Empire have been taking a back seat these past few months. A combination of work, other hobby projects, family and commission work have all combined (in a transformers combiner-bot style) to distract me from progress with the Forces of Franz. Despite that I have been feeling the old world Warhammer vibe, in no small part due to @evilstu fantastic Warhammer Fantasy Revisited project, whose work is flipping awesome, much respect. Would love to see the two forces facing off against each other one day. I had a unit of bunch of models, who I finished off last year, but never got around to photographing, so made some time this week and got some pictures of them. First up a good sized unit of Greatswords:
And a good old fashioned Warrior Priest to spread the good word of Sigmar:
And finally, these last 2 weeks I have managed to crack on with the Demigryph Knights, who were an utter joy to paint and I am really happy with how they came out. Generally speaking most of my models are primed in black and then zenithed grey and white, then brush painted using the GW range of paints. I am tempted to do a much more detailed step by step for the next model that I have coming up, but at the speed I paint that might be a while!
I am really enjoying slowly building up my Old World Empire. I have a game of KoW set up and will try and get some pictures of that to put up here, so you can see the entire force on the battlefield. Please drop me a comment with any questions or feedback, until next time!
It has been a while
Hello world again,
Apologies that it has been so long since I have updated this project. Life has gotten in the way, but I am still working away on my Fantasy force. Made some progress with the Knights. I have always loved the Panther Knights from the Old World and so went with them. I started with airbrushing the armour plates of the old GW plastic warhorses, I used Vallejo Blue Ink over standard white, gradually building the blue up in layers. With this done I switched over to the brush, using mostly GW paints and inks on the old plastic models. I was really happy with how they came out. Happy to provide more details/answer questions if required.
Hope you like and thanks for reading!
My First Entry....
Hello World,
With the release of BoW 2.0 I wanted to start something suitable to give the new projects feature a try out. Recently I have been working on a host of sci-fi and historical forces and I really wanted to get back to working on some good old fashioned Fantasy models, so I came up with the idea of starting a new force based on putting together the dream army that I always wanted as a young lad.
As a 12 year old boy, I had a hankering for a Warhammer Empire army, all those cannons, war machines and I loved playing “normal” humans in settings with super-powered monstrosities. The idea of a regular human going into battle armed with nothing more than a sharp stick and a big feather in his hat seems like real courage to me. So I set about building the army of my (12 year old selfs) dreams.
First up was a good rummage around in my hobby stash (loft) and I found a load of stuff up their from my childhood, that brought a misty tear to my eye. So I started work on a unit of Pikemen and Handgunners that I found from way back. My intent was to get them to a good tabletop standard quickly. Assembled, based and then zenith coated, a simple paint scheme of base colours, washes and a little bit of highlighting got these two units to tabletop quality in little time.
The Alcatani Fellowship were a bunch of Tilean models from the old Dogs of War range. Having been sitting around in my loft for nearly 20 years, I figured they would be a good start to my Empire force.
Next up another blast from the past, I found a bunch of models in various states from the old 6th edition (I think), Warhammer Fantasy starter force. The handgunners were still on the sprue, 4 set poses, but they have a certain nostalgic quality – for me at least.
That is what I have pictures of so far, but next up are these guys that I grabbed 2nd hand on a Facebook sales group a couple of weeks ago…
Will post more pictures as I go. Hope this post brings back fond memories of your original Dream army, thanks for reading!
