Burrows and Badgers Speed Paint

About the Project
SO much Burrows and Badgers activity on the site it was hard to not get caught up in it. So at UKGE this year I picked up a bunch of models.. and then ordered a bunch more when I got home. I am not a great painter but I like to think I can get results quickly. This is how I got 21 miniatures done in 10 days with just a couple of hours of effort per day.

all done
Ok so once the dip was dried I revisited each miniature and just highlighted them where they needed it.
I probably spent an hour on each mini in total, this could have been quicker but I decided to do it on Stream.
Once completed I used Army Painter Matt varnish to remove all the shine left by the dip.
I am very happy with the result they are now at what I think is a good tabletop level ready to be played with. Let me know what you think.
This makes 26 Burrows and Badger miniatures from Oathsworn since UKGE, so we should have enough to keep us going for a while.
Materials
So they usual technic up to this point, just get all the base colours down and get good coverage. Once this is done simple paint on the dip going all over and then removing an excessive pooling.
now I just need to wait
Half way stage
So just a couple of hours and all the models are at the half way stage.
need to let the dip dry and then I can highlight and base
Next batch ready to paint
So a very quick zenith using the awesome Stynylrez primers. I hope to get these painted over the weekend. The collection is getting quite large now.
Some more speed Badgers and Burrows on the way.
Well as you saw I added to the collection and they have arrived. I will give more focus now to breaking down my method and walking you through it.
Even before they are painting I love the look of these new additions.
We are not quite done....
So if this project does anything I hope it shows that anyone can get good results for the tabletop will not much effort. Certainly, this is helped by some very characterful but simple sculps from Oathsworn which honestly are a joy to paint but this method can be used for anything.
In future, I will start to do a more broken down stages of a project because this was very much an afterthought once I had powered through all the models.
Fortunately, we are not done, yesterday I placed another order for some more miniatures from this range because I just can’t get enough.
So I will follow this same process but do more steps so I can show.
If you have questions do not hesitate to ask me.
I will be back soon.
Table top quality quickly
I will break this down into my process and show the results, in future projects I will go into more details.
This is essentially the Army Painter method with a few tweaks
Firstly I used
- Badgers Stynylrez Grey Primer through an airbrush, you can prime a model in just a few minutes and one coat I have always found to be fine.
- Using a combination of Army Painter and Citadel paints get the base colours down, now these models are not covered in detail so I was able to block out colours in about 20-30 minutes per model.
- Using Amry Painter strong tone mixed with some white spirit to thin it down I cover the model and then draw away any excess until I get to a level I am happy with. This is probably 3-5 minutes effort per model.
- Now you need to leave them for a minimum 24 hours but ideally 36+
- Ok now is a great time to do bases as you go, it keeps the process moving and does not waste time.
- My bases are simple, I found a company they do mix bag of rough terrain so simply cover the base in either PVA or Superglue ( I used superglue for faster results)
- Cover the base in these materials leave for a minute or two and tap of the excess.
- Once the model is dry (no longer tacky from the dip) do probably an hour per model of highlights and details, like eyes, edge highlights, dry brushing on fur etc.
- When happy you now simply need to use a matt varnish to finish, this not only protects the model but also takes all the shine away. I used the Army Painter Matt varnish through an old cheap airbrush.
- I finished all the models by doing a brown rim around the bases because I felt it had a better fit than the standard black.
Each model I reckon took between 1.5 – 2 hours (not including the drying time)
10 days after coming back from UKGE I had a good collection ready for the tabletop.
Picking up the shiny at UKGE
I am always interested in games, I simply cannot help myself and when people are talking about it so passionately. like Burrows and Badgers, I had to jump on board.
So at UKGE expo, I picked up a bunch of stuff to get me and kids started. They sold out of so much at the expo I came home and placed another order because I wanted a good mix of creatures
This gave us 21 options when building our warbands, my eldest son is a Skaven nut and so he already asked for me to buy all the rats 😀
