GorkaMorka Spring Cleaning

About the Project
It's that time of year again when a middle aged man's fancy turns to thoughts of the Spring Clean Challenge. I really should just finish my fungus forest but think an entirely fresh project will be more exciting and jump start some creativity. While this isn't a project that I've been sitting on forever, it is one that has been moving through my gaming group since it was purchased. I recently received this as someone had two and I've always loved Space Orks and the original Gorkamorka takes them up to eleven. I loved playing it but never owned it until now.

This was another CoG’s hand-me-down duplicate set so I’m not sure where it’s been or what it has seen but I’m not one to judge and I am just grateful to have received it. It certainly looks like a full box but I really don’t know if it is complete so will have to go through it with a careful eye later. There is a lot there from what I could see from a once over and don’t know where anything else would fit as GW really packed these boxes full.
Ah yes, the era of yardstick building with plastic bulkheads. I loved the Necromunda terrain back in the day so these should be fun.Looked Through the Box
I’ve now gone through the box more carefully and found some good and bad points. All the books are there plus other printed materials. The pad of Gang Sheets is gone, however there are a couple filled out ones which helps explain a further discovery.
Looked Through the Box
I’ve now gone through the box more carefully and found some good and bad points. All the books are there plus other printed materials. The pad of Gang Sheets is gone, however there are a couple filled out ones which helps explain a further discovery. The entire fortress kit appears to be there especially the bulkheads. Not sure exactly if I will build it but am leaning toward doing so and basing up appropriately. It will look nice with my Mekboys workshop.
While both trikes or Wartracks are in the box there are only enough parts to assemble 7 Yuffs and both Trukk kits are missing. Seeing that they are written up on the two sheets means someone assembled enough to play a basic game. Oh well, can’t complain about a free game and I remembered that I have two kits in the closet I’ve never opened. While not the same era, they are Space Ork so I feel an appropriate addition to the project.
Got To Work
I assembled the seven fellows I had and armed them with all kinds of extra bits as they were on the spurs as well. The little bases make it easier to pile the boyz into the trucks but they make it hard for the little guys to stand up on their own. I also built the two war traks, primed everything black, and went for some white dry brush or slap chop as the kids are calling it now days. As I have been spending a lot of my hobby time focused on learning new skills like NMM, was looking for a change from that, I wanted to crank these guys out using mostly Speed Paints.
I was able to find a previously owned trukk on Noble Knight Games for a good price so picked that up right away. It’s crew are already partially painted so that saves time and I added some of my left over bits and pieces after assembling it.
Old Boyz and New Boyz
So I found some of the original Gorkamorka bases on eBay so ordered them. They are smaller than the usual Oak bases and not round with the idea being it is easier to pack the Trukks full of Boyz if the bases aren’t in the way. Since I have all kinds of old Ork bits I figured I could make some new ones. Gorkamorka parts are a little smaller than the original plastic works but I’m sure it will look fine as Orks are a goofy lot after all.
Finished Trakks and Some Terrain
I have finished both War Trakks and the terrain bits. I’ve also finished all of the Boys that came with my set but they photographed badly. Hard to get the kite Gitz to hold still apparently. I’ve just about finished the first Trukk I picked up online, just needs some decals and I’ve assembled the second Trukk I picked up as well. Get a few more Boys assembled from spare parts and painted and it will be time to move onto the fort.
Unplanned Endings
I got all of the Boys painted by the beginning of May and was ready to build the card stock and plastic fort. Unfortunately, real life had other plans, as is often the case. On top of the usual end-of-school-year a teacher has to deal with, there was rather a lot of loss in my life in a two week period one of which meant I have had to find a new place to live. While I have secured an excellent new home, twenty years of living in a one bedroom apartment with a garage filled with my belongings have taken a great deal of time and labor to pack and transport. This has also destroyed anywhere I would have taken pictures so apologize for the absence of evidence. Perhaps once I am settle into the new home and work space I can update this blog. Until then, I’m calling this Spring Clean Challenge entry complete.
