Battle report! Pt3

After taking the short boat ride across to the centre ground my Strigoi once again leapt into action and managed to seize an objective from the Gifted by means of hitting the person carrying it until it was dropped!

Meanwhile on the other side of the building another member of the Gifted was being interrogated on the Bridge of interrogation!

My forces briefly clashed with the Vatican but were held at bay.

That’s it! End of turn 5.

Sam’s Vatican seize victory by a single point (more 1vp objectives completed) well played to Sam, always a great opponent and all round good egg.

I came in a close 2nd with my Strigoi and although Joe’s Gifted scored the fewest points, they were by far the coolest on the battlefield, leaping and back flipping all over the place.

The Harlequin, I would give character of the game to.

Was this all a cunning ruse?

While distracted with fighting just across the bridge from my deployment zone a lone Harlequin from the Gifted silently vaulted from a rooftop.

Effortlessly springing around from pillar to post this Harlequin snatched up an objective in short order.

Meanwhile on the other side of the battlefield the Vatican slowly but purposefully made their way to and secured the 2nd objective.

Dispatching the last of the Gifted and impaling them on sticks my Strigoi headed towards the nearest Gondola  making for the centre ground.

Let’s get all of these painted minis on the table ?

This was a 3 player battle with the aim of capturing 2 objectives from roughly the middle of the battlefield.

These objectives could be moved once reached and were scored at the end of the game.

There were also 5 other secret objectives that we the players drew at the start of the game and could complete for 1 victory point each.

I was playing as the Strigoi, my good friends Sam and Joe as the Vatican and Gifted respectively.

Fantastic scenery provided my Sam.

Now, I played this game a few weeks back so don’t fully remember the events exactly but I’ll do my best.

I’ll tell the tale of this battle in a more narrative way rather than who rolled what etc…

The objectives I needed were in the centre of the board.

I split my force into 2 with some attempting to vault the canal and others taking a longer but perhaps dryer route.

Deployment Deployment

The vaulting of the Canal went well for one of my henchmen as he nimbly sprang from a pole in the middle to the other side.

The other was not so lucky and ending up swimming half of the way.

Meanwhile the other half of my gang encountered some resistance in the form of the Gifteds leader.

He was dispatched by the Implaler, making way for other gang members to catch up.

BattleBattle

There now ensued a melee against a few members of the gifted crew  enraged at the death of their leader. Fighting was tough but the Strigoi with their vampiric regeneration won this skirmish.

Targoveti - a pair of them

To finish off the gang is a pair of Targoveti.

These are basic Grunts, a henchmen unit that you need a few of to let you take some of the cooler characters. (You need 1 henchman for each hero in your gang)

They are painted in a style to match the rest of Warband although, I’ll be honest I didn’t spend quite as much time on them.

Next up is the Hospodar.

Adorned in magnificent plate armour (not great when pushed into a Canal)

Wielding and ornate Longsword

He looks every bit the leader that we Need.

I started the armour with an Army painter quick paint red but I thought this a bit flat on its own so I added some oranges and yellows to the upper left of the armour to give some sense of light.

I tried a bit of blending of blues and reds on the cloak which seems to have come out OK

Quite pale skin and piercing blue eyes completed this mini, who in the end I was quite pleased with.

Next favorite model is the Big lad!

Much the same colours used as with the Spatar.

I’ve made the skin a little less pale and done more traditional eyes.

On a different note, this guy is an absolute beast in game.

My favourite mini in the box! The Spatar. She just has a really menacing look about her.

Undercoated in Grey seer

The armour is a gunmetal with a Strongtone wash and highlight up with Bonewhite and White on the highest bits

The hair is orange rust with a wash of Fuegan Orange and highlighted with Bonewhite

Flesh is a pale flesh, with a very small dab of fleshshade, again highlighted with Bonewhite

Eyes were large black circles then slightly smaller white circles with a drop of Blue Ink

Clothing is a mix of Shadow black and love affair red with varying dilutions of paint.

Boots and gloves are a brown leather and again highlighted with Bonewhite

I LOVE Red and Black / Black and Red as a colour theme.

Having recently watched House of the Dragon and, Targaryen being the main house featured in this with their Black and Red colours I was even more inspired to get started painting my own Warband with this theme.

After a quick prime with some of GW’s Grey seer paint I set about starting my minis

Some Skintone and Browns to start with as well as a bit of something on the bases which I’ll cover in a separate post.

As a rule I don’t like “batch painting” but when I squeeze too much paint from the bottle, I hate it going to waste 😛  hence painting a few minis at once.

Below is a picture of some very early progress

Hey Folks.

Another new system for me and this time its Carnevale.

A very cool game set in 17th Century Venice ,but with a difference!

There is Magic and Cthulhu esqe creatures and Vampires and the Church and Gondolas.

Loads of other cool stuff too.

Carnevale is a game of awesome cinematic moment, be it Vaulting from rooftops, duelling on the streets or Boat to boat Gondola combat.

I picked up a few Minis from the UKGE and it was the Wallachian Warband for the Strigoi faction.

I had no idea how they would play but I just liked the minis.

A couple of friends already had minis for this so I knew I could start playing once ready.
