Lunar Starter

I was in charge for today’s miniature meetup, having picked up the key because it was closed. As we had an odd number, I happily sat off to the side and painted while 2 games of 40K, 1 of Kill Team and a later game of Turnip28, occasionally getting up to get pictures of games for those who couldn’t come.

I was working on finishing up the Soviets from the starter, and the Immortals unit for my Necron kill team. And then I squeezed out some metallic green and did some Necron Scarabs that I had primed but didn’t want, just to put a layer of paint on those and use up the green.

It was just fixing the visor and doing something with the weapons to finish them up. Also cleaning up a few red spots missed, and some gold on the chest of one of the Soviets to help with identification.

I bounced back and forth, and everyone else finished their games and headed off, and I stayed behind, wanting to finish, and these are done enough, minus a layer of varnish; two layers matte on the fabric, and a pass of gloss on the visor after. I may come back to these if I get some Soviet waterslide transfers, flags and space stuff, just to give them more visual separation from the rear, though. I also have a bag of five more Soviets on order from Black Site.

I use Army Painter, and the visor is Rough Iron, with Weapon Bronze low and Bright Gold high to give that sensation of looking at the lunar surface. The rest is speedpaint white and red (the red thinned with extra medium) and some black on  some details, with Rough Iron, Gunmetal and Shining Silver on the weapons and suitcase, with some Gemstone for suitcase stripes. Bases are spackling paste, with grey primer, then Dark Tone for the crevices worked back up with three layers from grey to white. Some pressing into with ball bearings the spackling paste and some cork rocks provided some variation.
