About the Project

I have been in out of Battletech for years, both on the tabletop and the PC. As a result when the kickstarter came around a few years ago I got quite a bit of it and then this year with the new kickstarter was out I went in for that too. Now with quite a pile of grey sitting on the side I thought now is the time to get some paint on these (also it is part of 2023 years hobby pledge so I thought I had better pull my finger out).

I’ve had these done for a while, but I got a new lighting setup today so I took some new pictures to see how that goes.

The new lighting is this (with an led lamp from above):

I saw this https://adaptalux.com/ while doing some research into better lighting and one from amazon is much cheaper version.

The basing on the highlanders is grey with liquutex black lava texture over it, the clan bases are vallejo desert sand washed with agrax earthshade and a screaming skull drybrush over the top and up the legs.

This scheme consists of army painters:
Undergrowth green
Jungle green

These were applied down using an airbrush with the Jungle green done from above and stripes applied with Kantor blue. The whole model was then washed with Athonian Camoshade.

The weapons and upper legs are leadbelcher (these might need a nuln oil wash as they are bit bright).

The cockpit is painted white with Bad moon yellow (contrast) over the top. The missiles are Yellow flame (from two thin coats).

This was the test scheme for the clans, it consists of army painters:
Omega blue
Ultramarine blue

These were applied down using an airbrush with the Ultramarine blue done from above, the lighter blue in that triad was a bit too light for me.

The grey weapons and upper legs are administratum grey with a nuln oil wash over the top of everything.

The cockpit is painted white with Fire Giant orange (speedpaint) over the top.

There are still a couple of lenses to do to and the base.

Paint Schemes

First job was to work out what colours I was going to paint these thing. I have some clan and inner sphere mechs from the various boxes so I thought I would need at least 2 colour schemes.

The first one I looked at was the clans and I decided on Clan Diamond Shark Sigma Galaxy, mainly because I liked the paint scheme and I thought it was something I could achieve.

The second choice was for the inner sphere and there I liked the look of the Ambermarles Highlanders.

Now with the colour schemes sorted I thought I had better check that the highlanders were about at the time of clan invasion and not on the other side of the galaxy fighting one of the other clans. Fortunately they were roughly in the same region of the and the highlanders were around in the during the clan invasion I couldn’t find anywhere that said they had fought but it was good enough for me.

It was at this point I thought I would paint a second inner sphere faction which has a long history including getting pretty much wiped out in the clan invasion. For this I selected the Twelfth Star Guards.
