About the Project

Given the impending arrival of The Doomed I thought I would dig out some of my minis for a variety of Science Fiction games, hopefully to provide a bit of inspiration for anyone new to kit-bashing. I get strong The Weald vibes from the Doomed, although that's more of a small army style game , but the human faction would not be out of place in The Doomed. I have also thrown in some Fantasy stuff I did for Frostgrave and others such games.

Not content with my first 32 miniatures, I decided I wanted some kind of repurposed industrial cyborg pieces.I 3d printed some Depth Walkers, basically a kind of deep-sea space marine. I would have printed shoulders too but my sack of crap Anycubic had decided to invert the image on the display while keeping the actual touch points in the original position.
So I dived into the bits box and found some GW bits and some Anvil shoulder pads, but I had to order more, I will be adding them once they arrive. For now there’s some pictures of the dry brushed WIP.
Also here are some pictures of my first Horror, just a 3d print, but fun to paint.

So this unwholesome lot was thrown together over a weekend , mostly with Stargrave Quarantine 37 in mind. The kit is mostly Stargrave crew with some Anvil and some Fireforge undead peasants. I went with teal and white trying to give a bit of a medical/scientific feel.

I had a few loose concepts when designing these miniatures, I wanted to create a mix of mercenaries and frontier colonists with a view to making them either allied or opposing factions for a game like Xenos Rampant. It also helped me use up a box of WA Resistance fighters that are slightly smaller than the Northstar kits I originally wanted to mix them with.

So here goes. This is a picture heavy project, the clue being in the title. Kit-bashing is probably my favourite part of the hobby. To the point where I feel peculiar if I build a miniature from one sprue. I guess churning out Bolt Action armies has helped me build a tolerance. I prefer a built mini to a resin print because it feels more ‘my own’ creation, rather than a printed facsimile of someone else’s vision. Don’t get me wrong, I have some great resin prints, but you just can’t get consistency in scale when you buy resin prints. Sure you can print them yourself but it’s a faff getting everything to scale when you are printing a range of designers.
