About the Project

The new expansion for The Silver Bayonet was available at Salute 50. I picked up my copy and the game inspired me to get back into my collection. Painting up some of the new bestiary from the expansion and some minis for my investigating warbands.

Four eyed Dog faced Ogre - Căpcăun

My version of a Căpcăun. (Based on a Rottweiler for his coat.) He's at the edge of his cave and the adventurers have clearly interrupted dinner ... Or served up dessert. The locals claim that the beast has 4 eyes, but now we can see him up close, his orange eyes and orange brow markings give that impression at a glance. Those that live to tell of an encounter with this beast... Generally only ever have time for a glance. My version of a Căpcăun. (Based on a Rottweiler for his coat.) This Hasslefree miniature finally found a chance to shine and get painted. (Hope Justin doesn't disapprove of the dangler, but with a loin cloth I imagine he would look less ferocious) I realised he isn't ogre sized like the official North Star mini so went for some cool basing to make him stand out. This Hasslefree miniature finally found a chance to shine and get painted. The greenery on the base has become something I really like. It is actually a dab of Urban basing flock from Army Painter allowed to fully dry and then picked out with green paint. I think I added some Athonian Camoshade to give it some depth and a mossey look. The greenery on the base has become something I really like. The skull may have a helmet but I think that just shows how long that these dog ogres have been roaming these mountains and how long they have posed a threat to the locals. The skull may have a helmet but I think that just shows how long that these dog ogres have been roaming these mountains and how long they have posed a threat to the locals.

They have made an official Forest witch mini, but I find part of the fun of exploring this game is to kit bash and add my own flavour to how my games of Silver Bayonet will look and play out. Muma Pădurii in Romanian folklore is a mad or hag type woman of the woods and in The Carpathians expansion she is a witch in the first solo mission. I had painted a Necromancer for a Frostgrave North Star painting competition and there was an apprentice in the set. The model isn't particularly hag like, but there's something about the hunched posing and the sculpt that was enough to pick this out as my Muma Pădurii. The grey hair helps age her. I like idea of her looking almost beautiful most of the time but becoming grotesque and becomes volatile / crazed as soon as she decides you are an enemy to her or the forest. I then started looking at the new bestiary and was interested in the Carpathian region specific bad guys and some Gringo40s French minis I hadn’t primed yet.

The idea is to play the solo campaign as a prelude to the proper campaign. I may take both my English and French forces through the solo campaign and then face them off against each other (hopefully with some improved xp and weapons) to add some narrative heading forward into the PVP games.

My old Silver Bayonet project (Golden Button winning project by the way) culminated in a battle report. The project was extensive and covered my kitbash journey to making two forces for the game and having fun fleshing out the bestiary.
