About the Project

This is my blog pretty much of the way I went about setting up my first go through of Space Station zero. Hopefully, it will end with a sort of battle report of my first team trying to make it to the end.

This Project is Active

Challenge 4- Fabrication Bay

The crew walk into a sparse bay to find Remnants of what seem to be giant material printers which were likely used for fabrication of high end technology and parts, though most of these machines have long sinced passed into disrepair.

Obstacles and Enemies

Swarm drones (3)

Toxic Leak

Swarm Jamming

Swarm Drone [alien technology] these are made of masses of tiny robots that undulate and swarm as they move. They have 7 life and 5 combat and man are they going to be rough. They have no weapons but may lash out with their swarms at nearby enemies with a weapon close attack.

Special Ability- Swarm Resistance if they are damaged with a non energy type weapon they reduce the damage by 1 to a minimum of zero. If they are attacked with a energy keyword weapon they suffer 2 additional dmg. Good thing I have a couple energy weapons with me

Toxic Leak– there is toxic fumes in the air coming off the fabricator printers so every time the crew activates they have to make a Life Save 2 or take dmg. There is a VENT on the floor of the bay and if you get a reaction test challenge of 4 to activate it you no longer have to make life saves. May have to head someone over the QUICK.

Swarm Jamming [alien technology]- if a crew member gets within 1″ of a fabricator that can attempt to utilize it to make a weapon that will supremely help taking down the drones , but its a Challenge test 4(8+) so its going to take some effort.

So, first I rolled for random terrain and set up the Mission Terrain as per the map in the book.

Next I rolled for  Objectives and Enemies I got

Poison Gas Leak- There is some old and damaged broken down pipes that are now emitting poison gas into the room. These are a 3 seperate locations and can be shut down if I can get one of my crew over to them and make a Reaction Challenge test 3 which means I roll my Reaction stat (in most cases of the crew this is 4) on D12s and I need 3 successes (evens) to shut it down. The downside is every time I activate one of my crew they have to take a life check and pass however many poison gas leaks are still active or take the difference in Dmg. This is a problems since almost all of my crew are on 4 life.

Ancient Sentries- If the gas wasn’t enough there are 6 barely function robots in the bay that are coming for my crew due to some automated protocol. The good news in they don’t have any ranged weapons, but they will keep coming unless I take them all out.

To Win this challenge- I have to shut down all the gas leaks and take out the sentries and hope my crew survives.

Rogues Gallery- These are the robots that I’ll be hoping to cut down in the challenge.

The robots are split into 2 equal groups these are the ones coming at me from the crew's left side. The robots are split into 2 equal groups these are the ones coming at me from the crew's left side.
this is the second group coming at my crew from their rightside of the baythis is the second group coming at my crew from their rightside of the bay

Here are a couple shots from each side of the board after deployment.

Turn 1- The crew has the first activation.  Regadin is my first choice to activate, after taking the Poison check he loses 1 health point and using Thergrum’s Logistic Expert ability since he was within 3 inches is moved 8 inches and gets close enough to engage one of the Ancient Robots in Melee. 12 wounds (Crit ATTACK) are rolled and the Robot fails to save 8 of them and is killed.  The crew then fails to retain initiative.

One of the ancient robots heads towards Regadin and engages him in combat causing no damage since Regadin is wearing an armored jacket got a little lucky here. In melee fighting both sides get to roll  and he attacks back causing 3 dmg and killing yet another robot.   Robots then fail to retain initiative

Rangrim the brother of Regadin is the next one to be activated he passes his Life Challenge so he takes no damage. Eying up one of the robots from the other side he moves up the table a takes a shot with his Energy missile Weapon and kills it.  Again The crew fails to retain initiative.

The final robot on the other side of the table moves up and engages Rangrim and attempts to lay him low with some melee action. Robot gets 2 successes and then Rangrim gets  5 successes on the defense roll and kills the 3rd robot.

Bad guys retain activation

There are two robots left on the table, but that gas is still leaking in the air although the robots don’t care.  Since they are both out of melee range one of them activates and double moves towards the crew.

Bad guys fail to retain.

Next I opted to activate Doldain one of the crew’s pilots. He fails his life save and takes 2 dmg, that’s half his health but he soldiers on. He moves a little forward and takes a shot with his sidearm and manages to take another robot out.  One bad guy left.    Crew AGAIN fails to retain.

the last robot is out of range so he double moves towards Doldain. Since that is all of the bad guys it goes back to the crew.

Karthan the engineer of this crew is then elected to go next and he fails his life save and takes 1 wound. He elects to double move toward the middle gas leak hopefully he can shut it down next turn.

The main pilot, Bhardrum  who has an energy weapon is next and he fails his life check and takes 2 damage.  He moves forward and takes a shot at the final robot causing to damage, but the Robot saves and is fine.

The medical officer Gernam is next. After passing his life check he moves 4 and attempts to heal Bhardrum and succeeds! Bhardrum is back a full health.

Thergrum the commander of this crew is the only one left so he goes next. He passes his life check and moves up and takes a shot with his Energy weapon at the final robot and kills it!

There are no robots left, but the air is still full of poison..

Here you can see two of the objectives the crew still has to get to and shut downHere you can see two of the objectives the crew still has to get to and shut down

Turn 2- Regadin , the hero so far who has managed to take out 3 robots is my first selection. He fails his life check and takes 1 wound, after that he moves over to the right most leak and attempts to shut it down and does! 2 to go.

Since there are no bad guys left it’s just crew and  a bunch of poison in the air so no retention is necessary.

Next is Karthan the engineer.  After taking his life check (it’s 2 now instead of 3) He is close enough to Thergrum to use his Logistics Expert ability and moves to the second vent and attempts to shut it down and succeeds! 1 to go

The medic Gernam is next to activate. After passing his life check (1 now) he attempts to heal Doldain and succeeds, he is now at full health.

Doldain now is elected to start and passes his life check and moves to the final vent. He succeeds only once so 2 to go.

Bhardrom  passes his life check and is next and manages to get near the final  vent but fails to get any successes.

Thergrum passes his  check but can only move closer to the final vent.

Yeah, I imagine a lot of cursing going on at this pointYeah, I imagine a lot of cursing going on at this point

Turn 3- Rangrim is first to be activated and fails his life Check and take 2 wounds and then fails to shut down the leak.

Doldain passes his life check and then shuts down the vent!

Victory for the crew…everyone is up a little short of breath but alive.

Deranged Mutants

This was a fun one! I let my imagination run wild on choices for these. There’s 4 of them and I decided to go off script! I love the way Space Station Zero lets you come up with your own ideas and just gives you a bare minimum description to steer you in the right direction.

This first one is from Sark’s Foundry. I just sort of wanted to paint him. Before I even downloaded it I already knew how he was going to be painted. I wanted to work a bit on my skin skills, it was a real blast to paint.

The Second one is a SciFi Mindflayer. I saw this one and decided I liked that it was a take on a classic D&D miniature. This is from Roleplaying & Miniatures.

The Third one I absolutely love. I had just been watching “Prey” and decided…hmm some sort of predator thing is kind of a cool idea.
So, thanks to Papsikels I picked this one up. I also picked up a Alien sort of creature which I may swap in a some point.

The Fourth is another choice from Imitation of Life miniatures. I love this sculptor they really hit the notes I love about the whole post apocalyptic genre. Amazing Talent!

So, the Rogue’s Gallery is pretty much complete. There is a few here I didn’t go into great detail about. I used some Necrons from the 9th Edition Set of 40k for a few “Robots with Ranged Weapons” and I used a few B1 Battledriods from Star Wars:Legion  and a Gonk Droid for “Six Old Robots”.

Now, I need a CREW!

Plant Mutants

I had no idea what to do about “Plant Mutants” but after  a few min searching about MMF I got these guys. They are a little less SciFi then they really should be, but  to be honest there isn’t on some of my other choices either so I just went with it.

These are from Andrew K. Barlow.

Here's a couple of them. I think painting these guys is going to be a blast. Here's a couple of them. I think painting these guys is going to be a blast.

Next on the list is "Trash Mutants",

Now, I have to admit I took a little poetic license on this one. “Trash Mutants” is probably like Skaven from Warhammer. I had been playing a lot of Mutant Year Zero (great game by the way) so I went with Imitationoflife  for the top 4 and  Papsikels for the other two minis on Myminifactory and picked up some bad guys. I love the aesthetic of them and I wanted an excuse to paint some of them up.

So, next on my list is the “Starving Mutants”. My mind immediately went to Troll like creatures. After looking about Myminifactory, I decided on these models from Novaminis. They are just tac’d to the bases at the moment and I went ahead and put pins into their feet (Thanks, Wowstick Drill), so the connection to the base is a little more solid.

I know it’s sort of a weird choice for a SciFi game, but I just think they fit that “Starving Mutants” type.

So here they are Primed and Zenithaled So here they are Primed and Zenithaled

Yet, More Drones

Next comes  the Repair drones.

They are kind of a variant of some of the other Flying drones from the last batch, but with arms. My thinking on all of these is I wanted them to be sort of boring. The color scheme is probably going to be not that exciting. Papsikels Miniatures for the flying drones with arms and Print Minis for the robot looking guys.

The first type in the back are variants of the Flying drones, but with arms. The guys in the middle just looked cool and I figure they all shouldn't be flying. The first type in the back are variants of the Flying drones, but with arms. While looking through the list they nicely gave us I noticed that in this game there seems to be lots of drones. I wasn’t a tau player so I don’t have any, but I do have a 3d printer.

I know it’s not necessary to have different drones for each type listed, but i figured lets go on Myminifactory and see what we can find and maybe give some sculptors a few bucks.

Two days later and many many cycles of printing/cleaning/slicing I was looking at this:

Just primed at the moment, makes it easier to see then the green resin I was using.Just primed at the moment, makes it easier to see then the green resin I was using.

The sad thing is, there’s about 4 or 5 more I want to print, but I was just a little done with 3D printing for the moment. 🙂

There are in this game: Swarm Drones ( the little 3 planes looking ones in the middle)

Flying Drones  ( the tau (ish?) and a couple of the four fan variant on the outside.

So, I bought this game like the week after it came out. I am subscribed to both Tabletop Minions and Vince Venturella on you tube so it was kind of a no brainer, both this and Reign in Hell are solid games. (At least they seem to be)

I live in a apartment and am  rehabbed Warhammer 40k player. I have a lot of models but I don’t really have any terrain to speak of. I was watching something on Ontabletop and it was about a game called Core Space. The game itself looks kind of fun, but the terrain is what really caught my eye and when I found out they have a space station set(ish). I went ahead and ordered it thinking about using it for Space Station Zero. It can be disassembled put back into a handy dandy box and I can set in on a bookcase or shelf so it doesn’t take up tons of room.

After giving the rules setup stuff once or twice I was starting to plot my future steps.  Then on a nice afternoon Snarling Badger Studios drops a FAQ giving us an idea of what models we may need. I didn’t read through any of the scenarios just yet I wanted it to be a surprise.
