About the Project

Having just visited Warhammer World I decided to come away with something substantial. Doesn't get a lot more substantial than this.... Going to be a long old road this one.

This Project is Active

Too big for the frame...

Well, gluing the wings on has proved to be a pain.

I considered pinning them at the nub, but getting the angle right for the wing socket proved really difficult and there isn’t enough resin at the contact points along the spine of the wings to actually drill into.

But after 4 attempts they seem to have stayed on this time.

This no longer qualifies as a miniature.

Still work to do on the main body and the wings need an awful lot of work to smooth out the colour.

And the base, oh my, I cannot be bothered with the base!

So, we then begin highlighting.

Flesh – Dry Brush Evil Sunz Scarlet > Wild Rider Red highlights

Armour – Dark Reaper highlights > Thunderhawk Blue highlights >Nuln Oil to dampen down how bright they were

Mouth – Volpus Pink Contrast > Agrax Earthshade

Teeth > Corax White > Apothecary White thinned down with contrast medium

Eyes > Ianden Yellow Contrast

Spikes > Leadbelcher > Agrax Earthshade > Nuln Oil > dry brush with Ironbreaker.

Still got to finish the base and the weapons – and the wings!

Also got to tidy up his eyes and add a white scar highlight to the teeth.

The wings are huge and make the model a bit unmanageable to paint if you glue them on (at least that’s what I found).

They are coming a long however and once I buy some more super glue he should be finished.

Few interesting things to note on this.

  1. I had to pin the chunk of rubble he is standing on to the base – first time I have messed about with drilling and steel wire
  2. Also had to pin his whip together – its a night mare to get right
  3. I also thing I pinned the arm holding the whip on as well

Not going to lie this is a struggle to paint, because the model is so big and awkward to hold, I am keeping missing bits under the arms and legs, so I am constantly having to touch up armour panels, leather straps etc. When I do that I inadvertently touch the flesh with a brown paint or something and have to go back to tidying that!

Been awhile – you know life does get in the way – I think once I had glued this together I got a bit overwhelmed when it came to actually painting it.

Also having just bought Angron twice (long story), I thought I better actually make a start on this.

So this is how we did it:

Flesh – Blood Angels Contrast

Armour – Black Templar Contrast

Armour Trim – Runelord Brass > Agrax Earthshade > Dry brushed with Ironbreaker

I think I bought this back in July time and I have only now just got around to cleaning, building, and undercoating this absolute beast.

It’s the first time as well I have felt the need to pin something together as this is so big and heavy.

Here we are so far….
