I got a little cross
Continuing the short terrain thread, here’s another lovely piece from Grand Manner.
So I ran out of brain, here's some terrain (in Spain).
A while since the last update. My painting did what it often does, and hit a wall. This is usually caused by overwork and this time is no exception. Terrain is a good way out for me for this because I find it takes less concentration than painting tiny men.
This is a lovely piece from Grand Manner. It’s perfect for Napoleonic Spain and doubly so for Silver Bayonet – the game that likes to hang around in graveyards like a teenage goth.
Basing - at last
I took a bit of time to overthink the basing. Minis like the guerilla and priest (plus the vampires to come) take up a lot of space in the middle, so any standard-sized tufts would be pushed to the side.
So I got some smaller tufts and some old fashioned flock (fine turf from Woodland Scenics) and had a play.
I created a couple of blank bases and had a go with tiny tufts and merely small tufts. I preferred the small but I’ll keep the tiny ones handy for bases really short of room.
The greenness has drowned the goblins a bit but they’ll do. The zombies look a load better for it – it’s really brought them to life, as it were.
I have a couple of batches outstanding: the Spanish team and the bandits/guerillas. Each of these has a second batch to follow so I’ll finish the basing of each batch when those are done.
Bandits! Kinda
Some bandits, this time from Warlord Games. These are some guerillas from their Spanish Napoleonics range and apart from the priest, they provide some great bandits.
I’ve another six of these to do, and there’s method to my madness in painting so many bad guys. I just need more for the solo campaign. With no opposing team to shoot up, the solo scenarios load up on monsters and baddies.
And this time the video is ready. There’s a playlist too.
More Crappy Revenants
I tossed off some more zombies revenants. I’m probably really overcatering now but I had the minis left and fancied another play with the contrast. Again they’re not great but I’m learning how to contrast.
El Equipo Español
At bloody last, some people! This is the Spanish team from North Star – the official range.
These are the ones I’ll be starting the game with, bolstered by some more infantrymen bought from Perry and set to be painted soon.
These four I don’t plan to use initially but they’re too delicious not to paint up.
Eeek! Zombies! Ahem, Revenants
These are from Mantic, I’ve used them before and I love them. They’re simple but that suits me just fine. I have seen some excellent conversions on this very site and the official minis look superb. There’s a chance I’ll upgrade to the North Star revenants but for now here are some Mantic, er, revenants.
These represent my second and third goes with contrast paints. I’m getting a feel for them. I’m happier with one batch than the other, but they’ll do.
Starting off with some goblins
I began the project with some goblins. The official ones are due out soon but I couldn’t wait. I’ve gone for GW’s goblin town goblins from the Hobbit range. The minis are really wonky, in a good way, delightfully so.
This was my first time playing with contrast paint (mostly Millitarum Green and Snakebite Leather). I’ve not done a great job but oh my it was quick!
Basing isn’t complete. I’ve not yet decided exactly what to do.
