About the Project
Because I don't play enough game systems already and keep looking at it, let's dust off this copy of Star Saga and get into Deadzone 3rd edition!

This Project is Active
Project complete! (For now...)
And with that, I have a fully painted Star Saga set and have cleared my Deadzone backlog!
I do intend to add more, of course, but I get to finish the year with this off my to do list.
Star Saga crates and stasis pods
The final pieces! Star Saga crates and stasis pods are tabletop ready and with that I have a full set!
Star Saga tables & cabinets
Continuing the theme of ‘bang them out fast and get it done’ we have the tables and cabinets finished.
Just a couple of mysterious laboratory tanks and half a dozen crates to go!
Star Saga Doors
Doors! You won’t get anywhere without doors! Truly a vital element of any dungeon crawler, the ability to get between rooms!
Computer consoles and gun racks
Keeping them simple and quick, the computer consoles and gun racks are done!
Alyse
The last hero/mercenary is done, so here we have Alyse.
Next up I crank through the Star Saga scenery pieces as quickly as possible to get the game out of my to do pile!
Ogan Helkkare & tokens
Ogan Helkkare, his sentry guns, shield tokens and a surely helpful bomb bag join the completed pile.
I decided to go in strong on the cyberpunk look with some dazzlingly bright colours. I’m tempted to reuse it on something in future, possibly a full Forge Father strike team if I ever get around to it!
One character left to go and on to cranking out the Star Saga scenery in hopefully short order to clear this project off the list!
Send in the Marines!
The last batch of Star Saga minions is the Marine squad, because what private security detachment is complete without them?
Monarch
Painting in no particular order as I get closer to the end of Star Saga minis, I decided to paint up the big bad Monarch.
Incidentally, I decided to use this as a colour test for me Star Wars Legion clones that need doing at some point. Because why not?
Mazon Labs Security
Pushing slowly on, the next batch of cannon fodder is the Maxin Labs Security Guards. I decided to go with a Babylon 5 style brown, mostly because it amused me.
Francesco 'The Devil' Selvaggio
Francesco ‘The Devil’ Selvaggio, another Star Saga player character & Deadzone Merc.
Fear the Devil’s flame!
Captain Erika Dulinsky
Next Star Saga player character/Deadzone mercenary done, Captain Erika Dulinsky.
Kept simple, got done! Had a go at a bit of facepaint.
Wrath
Wrath is a Star Saga player character and now a Deadzone mercenary too.
I found the detail quite soft in this one unfortunately, being an older PVC cast it is showing some age compared to newer Mantic minis. Still, a quick paint job experimenting with some colour combinations and a bit of free handing for a basic table top ready finish.
Guard Commander Graves & Medi-bot
Here we find Guard Commander Graves, a Star Saga boss & Deadzone commander. And with him what I will be using as a Medi-bot in my Mazon Labs list, but is I think a hero character in Star Saga.
Plague Victims & bases
As I was sorting bits out, I decided to just go ahead and do the bases on the rest of the Star Saga minis. Hopefully this will speed things up a bit for the remainder.
The bases are stonewall grey, coloured stripes, diluted typhus corrosion then a light stippling of cold grey to disguise any imperfect lines.
Cyborg Prime
For the Cyborgs in my Mazon Labs, I am of course using the Dreadball cyborgs. And as I have ended up with a spare captain model, he shall serve as my Cyborg Prime leader!
Plague Aberration
Painting in the order needed to field my tournament list on Saturday, here comes the other big thing from the Star Saga box, the super gribbly Plague Aberration!
I started with undead flesh, heavily glazed/washed with Cayman green. Then drybrushed undead flesh, some more targetted glazing with terracotta, a terracotta/undead flesh highlight and the sand colour was used with bonewhite to work up the boney spines. And pink to pick out some details.
Urbana Black Wing Rangers
Some more progress on the rank & file here, with the elite troops from the Star Saga set adding some long range fire support from the rifles and crowd control in the form of two flame throwers.
As these are the PVC cast versions of the sculpts I did find some details a bit soft and kept the paint jobs simple. I’d be interested to compare these to the hard plastics at some point.
Experimental Chovar
I had a little fun with this one as it is a mad thing. I started off with going orange as part of the faction scheme and then attempted a mottled effect by glazing dilute charred brown.
The cabling was originally pink to match Dr Koyner but it wasn’t working against the orange so I swapped it out for fluorescent yellow. Who knows what they are pumping into this psychic squid?
