About the Project

What happens when a Chaos Knight meets a Deathstrike Chimera-variant tank in the pretty countryside of Warhammer 40.000? They don’t shake hands or play football, that’s for sure! These two large Games Workshop model kits smash together and destroy a lone Guardsman’s relaxing walk along a pastoral lane, in this foot square diorama for Warhammer 40,000.

Arranging the diorama elements and sculpting the base

I’m building this on a foot square base, and I want it to be a pastoral scene that is rudely interrupted by a tank and a giant mech tearing lumps out of each other.

I’m also keen to introduce a human element to it, so I’m adding an injured Guardsman walking along this country road. He turns the corner and discovers a monumental clash happening just in front of him!

I’m using two main kits:

  • Games Workshop Deathstrike/Manticore tank.
  • Games Workshop Chaos Knight Desecrator/Rampager.

For the base I’ll be using:

  • Sculpture Block 15 x 15 x 2.5cm from Amazon.
  • DAS White Clay.
  • Matchsticks from Art & Hobby.
  • Red bricks from Green Stuff World.
  • Camouflage netting from Javis.
  • Green flock mix from various model train bags.
  • Javis 00-scale tree

I added the video to YouTube in the wee hours of this morning, and I also wanted to share the colour charts/palettes here.

This has been a monster project, spanning 4 weeks, but has been enjoyable throughout. (Apart from the blu-tacked fingers dropping off like 50,000 times!)

I’m happy to chat about any of the techniques or materials I used if you want to reach out in the comments.
