Dungeoneers, a 3D printed journey

About the Project
I backed the Kraken 3D studios recent 3D printed dungeon Kickstarter and bought myself a 3D printer. As part of the Kickstarter there were some gorgeous minis as well as the terrain tiles. This led to an Airbrush and some magnifying glasses... and being able to see minis in their full detailed glory when painting. I'm really enjoying the artistic side of the Hobby again!

OSL
got the airbrush going this morning for a bit of OSL, followed by a brushed on coat of gloss varnish over he yellowed metal areas
Next on the bench
Up next is a little chap from the One Gold Piece patreon. He’s called the Grown Apprentice. Obviously from somewhere far far away
Hopefully get round to slapping some paint on him towards the end of the week
So I got a few minutes to add basecoats and a first oil wash… more to come
More to do
Here’s where I’ve got to… still more to do.
Next step of highlights, some OSL for the two with lantern/torch and some rust on weapons/equipment.
and once the glue is dry a brush over to remove the basing flock in the crevasses. The flock is homemade, sawdust dyed in 3 different colours and added in a few goes.
Oh yeah, and the bases are my first attempt at making them myself in tinkercad. They have a 2mm cavity and are magnetized.
The eye of the beholder
I hate painting eyes! Why bother! You can’t see them anyway!
Then I got the magnifying glasses… and I thought let’s give it another go.
Well they didn’t all come out perfect, but I was impressed. I rolled the minis in my hand onto the point of the brush rather than the other (correct?) way round. I found it easier to control the level of contact that way
Let's get some paint on
These sculpts are lovely and they came out of the printer really well.
When I paint multiple models at the same time I like to use the same colour in different places on each mini
Once the basecoats were done, I hit them all with an oil wash (quite heavily) and sponged off the excess with a make up sponge after about 30 mins… when the oil was almost set but not quite…
This used to be the end of it for me when using quick shade dip (or well in the last few years anyway)
To Begin...
So I got a printer at the start of summer and have been busy printing Kraken 3D dungeon tiles (I’ll stick them in the project later). This led to me getting an airbrush so I could prime and zenithal indoors (I live in an upstairs flat). Then I got glasses and thought, the eyes are not the same as when I was actually playing and painting many games, so I got some magnifying jewellers glasses with a little LED light… and @&*% me! The difference! It makes painting so much more fun.
So gone is the base coat and dip approach of the last few years and it’s back to sitting down and enjoying it all again!
Printed in a nice green resin (it was the cheapest), Vallejo Black primer through the airbrush and a Green stuff world white primer as a zenithal highlight
